PEABODY — A 17-year-old reported to be a member of the Swampscott High School football team was arrested Friday morning following an altercation at the Northshore Mall that involved another teammate, Peabody Police Capt. Scott Richards confirmed Tuesday.
The teenager was charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanor offenses. A second juvenile who attends Swampscott High School was escorted off the property following the incident, but was not arrested, Richards said.
Richards said the incident — which the Peabody Police log lists as a fight outside of The Cheesecake Factory — took place between approximately 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. last Friday.
Richards confirmed, when asked by The Item, that both juveniles attend Swampscott High School and are reported to be members of the SHS football team that is playing against North Reading in a Super Bowl game Wednesday night at Gillette Stadium.
The Peabody Police Department, Richards said, has informed the Swampscott Police Department of the incident; Richards said he was informed by the Swampscott Police Department that the School Department has been made aware of the altercation.
Richards would not confirm the name of the juvenile who was arrested. According to the Peabody Police log, the juvenile is a 17-year-old from Swampscott, who was arrested and charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct.
