LYNN — The Moley family is hosting their third annual Christmas fundraiser this Saturday at Fuddruckers to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society.
The family began hosting fundraisers to raise money for the American Cancer Society after Guy Moley’s mother died from esophageal cancer 13 years ago.
When his mother died, the family began participating in the relay for life in Wakefield, but wanted to do more.
“My mom passed away and we just wanted to do something to help the Cancer Society,” Moley said.
Moley himself was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer four years ago but beat it, so donating to the Cancer Society is important to his family.
His family has now been hosting a car show fundraiser in July, a ‘touch-a-truck’ fundraiser in May for the past seven years, and the Christmas fundraiser for three years, all of which are hosted at Fuddruckers.
The car fundraiser, which Moley said has been very successful over the years, had more than 100 cars last year.
Between the three fundraisers last year, the Moley family raised almost $10,000.
“People look forward to all of our events,” Moley said. “We have a lot of fun things going on and we bring the party so people want to come.”
Since they were unable to host in-person fundraisers last year, they asked people to donate, and also held a canning day in front of Honey Dew Donuts in Wakefield, accompanied by Santa and Mrs. Claus so kids could take pictures.
“It was kind of crazy because everyone just wanted to take pictures with Santa, and he had a mask on under his beard, so people were just floored that they could get a picture with him,” Moley said. “I think having Santa there helped us raise a lot more.”
This year’s Christmas fundraiser will take place in person on Saturday at Fuddruckers from 5 to 8 p.m.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will also be making an appearance at the fundraiser at 4:30 p.m. on a North Pole fire truck, and there will be a toy drive collecting new, unwrapped toys, which will be donated to children with cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital.
“Fuddruckers has been amazing to us,” Moley said. “They’re always willing to help and host.”
Along with fundraising through raffles, Fuddruckers is donating 20 percent of their income from food bought during the event to the American Cancer Society.
There will also be an ugly-sweater contest, with the winner getting a $20 gift card to Fuddruckers, and kids trivia and adult scratch ticket trivia.
The fundraisers have been successful every year, bringing in thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society.
