NAHANT — Residents will need to make different parking arrangements later this month when the town’s overnight winter parking ban goes into effect.
The ban, which requires residents to keep their vehicles off town streets from 12 a.m. to 6 p.m., will begin on Dec. 21.
The parking ordinance was announced at Wednesday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting. Weather will not impact the ban, meaning it will be in effect even when there is no snow in the forecast, according to Town Administrator Antonio Barletta.
Despite the ban, the town is still taking special requests from individuals who want to park on the street during those overnight hours.
“You can get a winter parking permit by request,” said Barletta, and permits can be picked up from the police station if the request is accepted.
“If you do not have adequate off-street parking, you can apply for a waiver at the Nahant Police station,” the Police Department said in a statement. “If the waiver is approved, you will be issued a sticker allowing on-street parking during the above dates.”
In the event that it does snow, all cars will need to be off the road during the duration of a snow emergency parking ban, or they will be subject to ticketing and towing.
The winter parking ban will remain in effect until March 20.
