Pick-up bounces off SUV into corner of house in West Lynn

LYNN — A red Toyota pick-up truck crashed into a home after colliding with a black Audi SUV at the intersection of South and Summer streets on Friday afternoon, the Lynn Fire Department said.

The crash occurred after one of the drivers was blinded by the solar glare; this caused a two-car collision, which caused the pick-up truck to crash into a house on the corner of the two streets. Authorities did not specify which vehicle caused the collision.

District Fire Chief Tim Collier said the drivers were offered medical attention, but both declined.

The homeowner, Lorna Cole, was not injured in the crash either. Cole said that accidents like these are common on this intersection and that this was not the first time her house has been damaged by cars. Other homeowners in the area have also fallen victim to similar crashes, she said.

“It’s everybody,” Cole said, gesturing towards the houses next to her. “She’s been hit three or four times, this guy got hit last year near his garage, (and) I’m wide open. I even thought of putting up boulders.”

Damage to the outside of the house was minimal, but both Collier and Cole say the real damage occurred on the inside of the house, where pipes and lining were at risk of being destroyed by the crash.

Cole added that the city is aware of this intersection and has been trying to add safety measures to prevent accidents, but she says drivers need to be more careful.

“We have cops watching out for us, they changed the stoplights, the city knows, but it’s the people behind the wheel,” she said.
