After an incredible season for Lynn Classical this fall, Rams senior goalie Anna Flaherty has been named the 2021 Item Player of the Year for girls soccer.
Flaherty had an amazing season in net for the Rams, racking up 15 shutouts throughout the regular season. Those shutouts translated into a 15-0-3 record for the Rams, who won the Greater Boston League title for the second straight year. Flaherty was also named GBL co-MVP.
Also named as Item All-Stars for the 2021 girls soccer season were Lynn Classical junior Delaney Dana, Lynn Tech junior Helen Pojoy, Bishop Fenwick senior Claudia Keith, Carolina Bettero (Revere); Swampscott senior Maddie Hudson, St. Mary’s eighth grader Sophie Skabeikis, Lynnfield senior Adriana Parisi, Lynnfield senior Samantha Bunar, Marblehead senior Ella Kramer, Peabody senior McKayla Fisher and Peabody senior Emma Bloom.
Pojoy was the driving force behind the Tigers’ offense this season, notching an incredible 30 goals to go along with six assists. She was named the Commonwealth Athletic Conference Small Division MVP.
Keith had one of the best goalkeeping seasons in the area for the Crusaders this year, racking up a host of awards in the process. After notching 12 shutouts on the year ― including one against then-nationally-ranked Bishop Feehan ― Keith was named Catholic Central League MVP and named to the All-New England Teams by both the United Soccer Coaches Association and the Eastern Mass. Coaches Association. She ends her career with 40 career shutouts for Fenwick.
Bettero also capped off a stellar career this fall, notching her 100th career point with the Patriots. She closes her time with 109 goals and 45 assists for her career.
Hudson was a defensive star for Swampscott, notching First Team All-Northeastern Conference honors as well as Eastern Mass. Division 3 All-State honors in the process. She also contributed offensively with two goals and six assists.
Skabeikis was a bright spot for St. Mary’s on the offensive side, leading the way with 13 goals and seven assists.
Kramer was her team’s co-MVP this season, leading the Magicians with 13 assists on the year. She was a First Team All-NEC and All-Eastern Mass. selection as well as a team captain.
Fisher had a balanced offensive season for Peabody, scoring five goals and notching nine assists for 14 total points. That was good enough to earn her First Team All-NEC and Eastern Mass. All-Star honors.
Bloom was a team captain, a First Team All-NEC pick and an Eastern Mass. All-Star this year, recording nine shutouts in net for the Tanners.
Other local girls soccer players who earned all-star honorable mention status for the 2021 season were Lauren Wilson, Jayda Mateo and Ava Correnti (Lynn Classical); Amy Gutierrez, Elysse Newson, Arianna Garcia and Anadia Whelton (Lynn English); Sandy Garica, Maria Barrios and Cindy De Leon (Lynn Tech); Brooke Moloney and Meghan Lovett (St. Mary’s); Amy Hatfield, McKenna Gilligan, Isabella DelVecchio and Ella Morgan (Bishop Fenwick), Anna Radulski and Lexi Veglia (Lynnfield); Cait Mullins, Samantha Dormer and Talia Selby (Marblehead); Emily McDonough and Samantha Simmons (Peabody); Nahomy Martinez and Samarah Paiva (Revere); Isabella Cunha (Salem); Maddie Goyetche and Jordan Morris (Saugus); Victoria Quagrello, Sophie DiGrande and Lilian Gosselin (Swampscott); Mia Martucci and Summer Tallent (Winthrop).
