SAUGUS — Phil & Cory Castinetti’s Sportsworld, the store known for selling sports memorabilia since 1986, announced Monday it has moved from its location at 87 Broadway on Route 1 to 184 Broadway.

The move is just down the road, and fans of Sportsworld will be happy to know that the store is still operating seven days a week; from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.

The move occurred last month and took three weeks to complete. Sportsworld Vice President Cory Castinetti said the store had to move due to the landlord receiving a higher offer from a prospective tenant.

“It hurts to move,” Castinetti admitted. “What happened was that our landlord came in and got a higher offer. That was it.”

Despite the move, Castinetti says he, and the rest of the Sportsworld staff are pleased with the new location. He said that 184 Broadway has more parking spots and customers were pleased that the moving process was fast.

“I love the new place,” said Castinetti. “You have more space, more parking and I think people are really happy about the move.”

Castinetti said the store is busiest during the Christmas season, which is just around the corner. While he is excited for holiday shoppers, he acknowledged that the new omicron variant of COVID-19 could create problems for business. He said he would ensure customers are safe during the holiday season.

“We will make sure that everyone is safe, healthy and we will ensure our customers are happy as well,” said Castinetti.

Customers are glad that Sportsworld is still on Route 1. Customer Eric Wade, from Danvers, said he had been coming to the store since its original location in Everett in 1986.

“It’s like going to a sports museum,” Wade said about the store. “Even if you don’t purchase anything, your time is not wasted.”
