Being a single mother is more common than it should be in this day and age, but being a single mother of five is something you don’t hear about as often.
This mother who wrote to Item Santa wants her five children to have a nice Christmas this year, but without financial help, her dream may not be possible.
This single mom of five does not receive any financial assistance, and unfortunately, due to domestic violence, had to relocate her family from Boston to Lynn. Along with the move, she is in the process of finding a job, but has been struggling to keep one because of the need to take care of her children.
“I don’t have the financial means to make my kids have a decent Christmas. Anything helps,” this mother wrote.
Without the help of Item Santa, these five children might go without a gift on Christmas. No mother deserves to feel that pressure, and especially this mother who has already endured enough this year.
In its 55th year, the Item Santa fund helps to make Christmas brighter for the needy. To donate, clip the coupon in The Item and mail it, along with your check, to The Item Salvation Army Santa, 85 Exchange St., Lynn, MA 01901.
There is also a way to donate online through the Salvation Army at itemsanta.org.
All donations are listed in Item print editions through the month of December and into 2022, along with a brief message from each donor, if desired.
NOTE: The application period for aid from Item Santa has closed and The Item does not process applicants. All questions about the program and distribution of gifts should be directed to the Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
