Power restored after early morning ‘circuit-breaker blow’ behind GE

report

December 17, 2021 by report

LYNN — Fire Chief Stephen Archer said fire crews remained on the scene of a transformer-pole fire at General Electric’s River Works aviation engine plant for hours on Friday morning.

No one was injured, Archer said.

Archer said the 7 a.m. fire brought Engine 3 and National Grid to the scene. Archer said National Grid representatives reported “a large circuit-breaker blow” behind the vicinity of 853 Lynnway. He said the disruption caused power outages in parts of Lynn and Nahant. The utility reported no Lynn area customers without power as of 10:40 am., and Archer said no outages were anticipated while repairs are being made.

Archer described the area of the incident as a “very isolated” corner of the sprawling West Lynn aviation plant.
