The Bishop Fenwick boys basketball opened up its season with a big league win Friday night, knocking off Cathedral by a score of 64-56 in a Catholic Central League matchup.
The two-headed attack of Che Hanks and Mike Yentin scored 23 points each in the victory, while Jason Romans added 12 points. Gianni Mercurio had 12 rebounds to help the winning effort as well.
Fenwick (1-0) travels to Austin Prep Tuesday (7).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Mystic Valley 61, Lynn Tech 51
Andre Young led the way for the Tigers with 15 points and three steals, while Cesar Reyes had 12 points and a team-high six steals.
Lynn Tech (0-2) is now off until after Christmas, when the Tigers return to action in the Boverini Tournament on Dec. 28.
Newburyport 73, Lynnfield 51
The Pioneers were led by Cam Marengi’s 13-point effort, while freshmen Alex Flemming (11 points) and Gavin Deluties (nine points) also played well in the loss.
Lynnfield (0-2) returns to the court Monday (6:30) at home against Wilmington.
Beverly 57, Peabody 54
AJ Forte led the way for the Tanners with 11 points, while Colin Berube and Nick Soper were close behind with 10 points each. Luke Roan added nine points in the loss.
Peabody (0-2) hosts Gloucester Monday (7).
Saugus 71, Danvers 55
In the first home game with fans at their new gymnasium, the Sachems pulled out a big win behind a balanced scoring attack. Ryan Mabee led the way with 18 points, while Jeury Barbosa added 15 points. Tyrone Manderson and Ben Tapia-Gately each scored 14 points in the win.
Saugus (2-0) hosts Winthrop Monday night (7).
Swampscott 60, Gloucester 55

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 65, Cathedral 57
The Crusaders picked up their first league win of the year behind a pair of fantastic double-doubles. Sophomore Cecilia Kay led the way with 20 points and 17 rebounds, while senior captain Nasha Arnold had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Senior captain Olivia Found added 10 points and eight steals in the win.
Fenwick (1-1) hosts Nauset Saturday afternoon (3).
Danvers 44, Saugus 34
Fallon Millerick scored a career-high 14 points in the loss for the Sachems, while Ella Castle (six points) and Peyton DiBiasio (five points) also contributed offensively. Jessica Bremberg played great defense all night for the Sachems.
Saugus (0-2) plays on the road at Winthrop Monday (7).
Winthrop 55, Salem 47
The Vikings got 24 points from Maddie Stiglets to lead the offensive attack, while Reese Brodin added 14 points.

Lynn Tech 89, Minuteman 68
The Tigers got wins from Zakariya Bidoudane in the 200 individual medley, Jeremiah Arzola in the 50 freestyle, Addisyn Brown in diving, Vincent Marino in the 100 freestyle and Mario Rivera in the 100 butterfly. The 200 medley relay team of Bidoudane, Rivera, Arzola and Christopher Gutierrez also picked up a win, as did the 200 freestyle relay team of Arzola, Gutierrez, Kyle Lindquest and Rashaud Newhall.
