LYNN — A 23-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a homicide that took place in Saugus last Saturday, the Essex County District Attorney’s office said.
Angjeliki Hodaj has been arrested and charged with murder. She pleaded not guilty Friday in Lynn District Court and was held without bail.
The victim, Michael Norton, 26, was found dead in his home at 44 Collins Ave., which is listed as the Essex Landing apartment complex, last Saturday night. Norton’s death was discovered by family members, the DA’s office said.
When asked about how Hodaj knew the victim, the defendant’s attorney, Eric Taitano, declined to comment but said that his client is nervous.
“She’s scared,” said Taitano. “She’s 23 years old. She’s wrongly been accused of a crime she didn’t commit. You could imagine she is very nervous at this time.”
Taitano said Hodaj does not have a prior criminal record and is a mother.
Details about the homicide were not provided by the prosecution during the arraignment and a police report related to the defendant’s arrest has been impounded.
Hodaj will return to court on Jan. 13.
