LYNN — The Fire Department rescued a man from Lynn Woods on Thursday, after he fell down a rocky incline and suffered a traumatic leg injury.
The Fire Department received a call at 10:52 a.m. on Thursday about a male patient who was walking his dog in the woods, when he lost his footing going down a rocky incline and fell.
District Fire Chief Dan Lozzi activated the department’s ATV unit, which is housed at Lynn Woods, while fire-alarm operators stayed on the phone with the caller.
Firefighters were able to locate the man about a mile into Lynn Woods, down the side of a hill going toward Ox Pasture Road.
The ATV unit made its way into the woods to access the patient, while Engine Co. 5 and Atlantic Ambulance 14 were sent to Quinn Road, behind the Lynn Water & Sewer Commission water tower, to try to locate and access the patient from there.
The patient was reported to be getting light-headed, and was found on the ground, where he had been for almost an hour.
Firefighters went down the hill from the woods off of Quinn Road, with the crew of Medic 1, H-1, and the ATV unit arriving there shortly after.
“All crews worked together to stabilize and remove the patient, while medics gave pain management,” Lynn Fire said in a Facebook post.
The patient was safely removed from the woods in a stokes basket and transported to Salem Hospital.
