Booster site to open at NSCC in Lynn

December 29, 2021 by Adam Bass

LYNN — North Shore Community College’s Lynn-campus modular building has been selected by the Baker-Polito administration as one of four new COVID-19-booster sites.

The booster site will open on Wednesday, Jan. 5. It will have the capacity to administer 400 doses daily.

Individuals who are 5 years or older are eligible to receive a primary vaccine, and those 16 or older can receive a booster at the site. Hours of operation are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Cataldo Ambulance will serve as the vaccine provider and up to 400 doses will be administered daily.

Additionally, North Shore Community College announced last week that it will offer no-cost COVID testing for staff, students and the general public on the Lynn campus.

The three other sites announced on Wednesday include the Melnea Cass Recreation Complex in Roxbury, Fenway Park in Boston, and the Taunton COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic. The Roxbury site is set to open on Jan. 5, and the Boston and Taunton sites will open on Jan 6.

Per the administration, these four new vaccination sites are part of more than 1,000 vaccine-booster locations statewide. This announcement comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Lynn as omicron becomes the dominant variant in the city.

According to the city’s website, there have been 23,250 total COVID-19 cases in Lynn, with 177 new cases confirmed over the past 24 hours, and 245 deaths overall. Sixty-eight percent of Lynn’s population is fully vaccinated, with 71 percent of the population receiving their first dose of a vaccine. It was announced on Tuesday that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has surpassed 1 million confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Appointments at the Lynn campus are available now, and can be scheduled on vaxfinder.mass.gov. Walk-in appointments will be an option at all four sites. Language translation services will be available.
