SAUGUS — Tom Sheehan, a graduate of Saugus High, has had two new western books, “The Townsman ” and “The Horseman Cometh and Other Stories,” released by Pocol Press of Punxsutawney, Pa.
Readers can ride along as the 94-year-old author tells new Western tales across the prairie in Amazon and Kindle versions. The Saugus resident pens moralistic short stories, brimming with frothy beverages imbibed at local saloons, passionate revenge, romantic sequences, and plenty of gunplay.
The tales yearn back to the days of dime novels, named for their cost more than 150 years ago, which thrilled readers who thirsted for knowledge about the fantastical adventures of Western heroes. Sheehan cut his boyhood teeth reading Western stories and saddling up to watch Western films. This book represents one of a dozen books of Sheehan’s Western short-story collections.
He has had 55 books published during his career. He’s earned 18 Pushcart nominations, and six Best of Net nominations. Last year, he won the Ageless Writers story contest with “The Tale of Trot” and “Dim Johnny.”
