School Sports Roundup: St. John’s Prep wrestling sweeps quad meet in Connecticut

The St. John’s Prep wrestling team took a trip down to Connecticut Thursday and came home with three more wins, notching a sweep of a quad meet to remain undefeated on the season. The Prep beat Simsbury (Conn.) 59-17, beat Xavier (Conn.) 38-24 and beat Ellis Tech (Conn.) 76-6. 

To take home the victories, St. John’s Prep had eight wrestlers go 3-0 in their respective matches. The 3-0 performers were Alex Schaeublin (113 pounds), Tyler Knox (126), Adam Schaeublin (138), Rawson Iwanicki (152), Matt Mitchell (170), Zach Richardson (182), Dylan Greenstein (195) and Charlie Smith (285).

St. John’s Prep (15-0) travels to St. John’s (Shrewsbury) Wednesday (6).

Revere 70, Pioneer Charter II 54

Senior guard James Clauto led the offensive attack for the Patriots with 23 points, eight rebounds and seven steals, while junior guard Domenic Boudreau notched 17 points and five assists to earn an All-Tournament selection.

Revere (2-2) travels to Lynn English Tuesday evening (6).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Marblehead 51, Georgetown 44

The Magicians pulled out the win late after a furious back-and-forth battle on the road against a strong Royals squad.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the girls and how they continued to battle out there,” said Marblehead coach Paul Moran.

Catherine Comstock, Ella Kramer and Annika Haley all played well for the Magicians in the win.

Marblehead (2-3) hosts Winthrop Tuesday (7).

Stoneham 33, Winthrop 32

Although the Vikings came up just short in the loss at Chris Tsiotos Court, they did get solid performances from Emma Forsyth (seven points) and Kaylee Farrell (seven points). 

Winthrop (3-2) travels to Marblehead Tuesday (7).
