School Sports Roundup: Swampscott boys basketball knocks off previously unbeaten Salem

The Swampscott boys basketball team picked up a big win in its return to the court Friday night, knocking off previously unbeaten Salem by a score of 60-52 in a Northeastern Conference battle at Lynch Gymnasium. 

Evan Roth led the offensive attack for the Big Blue with 17 points, while Max Brodsky added 11 points off the bench. Riad Benagour also scored 11 points, while Ryan Ward scored eight points. Cam O’Brien facilitated the offense all night with a number of key assists.

For Salem, Darlin Santiago led the way with 15 points and Treston Abreu chipped in 12 points. 

Swampscott (2-3) and Salem (6-1) will meet again Tuesday night (7).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Lynn Tech 54, Nashoba 49

The Tigers picked up their first win of the Corey Bingham era with a team victory on the road. 

Sophomore Ederick Gonzalez led the way, finishing with a double-double of 16 points, 12 rebounds and four steals. Andre Young added 14 points and six assists in the win.

Tech (1-5) hosts KIPP Monday afternoon (12).

Arlington Catholic 68, Bishop Fenwick 64

Jason Romans had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Che Hanks was close behind with 19 points. Mike Yentin scored 16 points in the loss. 

Fenwick (4-4) travels to Bishop Feehan Tuesday (6:30).

St. Mary’s 79, Cathedral 59

The Spartans remained undefeated in the Catholic Central League with a home win at Conigliaro Gymnasium. 

Ali Barry led the way with 23 points, while Omri Merryman scored 21 points. Anthony D’Itria scored a season-high 16 points in the win.

St. Mary’s (11-1) has a full week off before taking on Austin Prep next Friday (6:30).

Masconomet 60, Peabody 57 (OT)

The Tanners rallied back to tie the game and send it to overtime, but the magic ran out too early on the road. 

Nick Soper scored 14 points in the loss, while Anthony Forte was close behind with 13 points. Shea Lynch and Luke Roan each scored 12 points in the loss.

Peabody (6-3) has a full week off before hosting Winthrop next Friday (7).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Winthrop 44, Revere 42

Grace Fleuriel led the way for the Vikings with a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sophia Lindinger added eight points in the win, while Kaylee Farrell made a clutch basket late in the game to help seal the win. Sam Galuris also played well for the Vikings.

Winthrop (5-4) travels to Northeast Tuesday (4).

Revere (4-3) takes on Peabody Monday (1:30).

North Reading 47, Lynnfield 28

Despite the loss, freshman Taylor Valiton had a big night and led the Pioneers with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Isabella George added nine points, while Lucy Cleary filled the stat sheet with four points, seven rebounds and four assists. 

Lynnfield (2-6) travels to Manchester-Essex Monday (4:30).

St. Mary’s 52, Cathedral 51

Despite Cathedral rallying back from 16 points down at halftime, the Spartans hung on for the win on the road. 

Kellyn Preira was the star of the game for St. Mary’s, scoring 23 points and hitting four late free throws to seal the win.

St. Mary’s (11-1) will play Lynn English Monday (6:30).

Marblehead 38, Gloucester 28

Samantha Dormer had another big night with 15 points in the winning effort, while Kate Burns scored six points. Kat Candelaria added three points and five rebounds.

Marblehead (6-4) hosts Danvers Tuesday (7).

SWIMMING

Shawsheen 95, Lynn Tech 74

Zakariya Bidoudane picked up wins in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, while Alberto Gerardo earned the win in diving. The 400 freestyle relay team of Addisyn Brown, Kailey Brown, Isabella Celona and Morgan Bourgeois also picked up a victory in the pool.

Tech (2-1) swims against Greater Lawrence Wednesday (3:30).
