The Lynn English boys basketball team had to battle until the very end, but the Bulldogs ended up pulling out a 67-66 victory over Chelsea in a Greater Boston League battle on the road Tuesday night.
Tyrese Melo Garcia continued his stellar season by filling the stat sheet with 24 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Josh Anderson also had a big night, notching a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
English (6-2) travels to Malden Thursday (6).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Winthrop 56, Northeast 47
Stellar defense led to a lot of transition baskets in the win for the Vikings.
Mikey Chaves led the way with 14 points and five steals.
Winthrop (5-4) travels to Peabody Friday (7).
Bishop Fenwick 67, Bishop Feehan 65
The three-headed offensive attack of Mike Yentin (18 points), Che Hanks (17 points) and Jason Romans (16 points) led the way for the Crusaders, while Nick Bowers scored 10 points and made a huge four-point play late in the game to help seal the win.
Fenwick (5-4) hosts Cathedral Friday (6:30).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Winthrop 33, Northeast 32
Grace Fleuriel led the way for the Vikings with 11 points, while Maddie Stiglets and Reese Brodin each scored 10 points.
Winthrop (6-4) hosts Peabody Friday (6).
Bishop Fenwick 70, Bishop Feehan 66
Sophomore Cecilia Kay had a massive double-double in the victory, notching 22 points and 20 rebounds to lead the way. Senior captain Olivia Found added 16 points and eight assists, while junior Erica Lendall notched 15 points.
Fenwick (6-3) travels to Cathedral Friday (6:30).
Lynn Classical 62, Somerville 23
The Rams were led by Keisha Perez, who scored 12 points in the win. Lauren Hennessey added 11 points to help the offensive attack.
Classical (7-1) travels to Chelsea Thursday (4).
Marblehead 34, Danvers 29
Ella Kramer scored 11 points to lead the way for the Magicians, while Samantha Dormer added eight points. Kat Candelaria also played well in the victory.
Marblehead (7-4) hosts Saugus Friday night (7).
Swampscott 50, Salem 42
Senior Sophie DiGrande led all scorers in the win for the Big Blue, finishing with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Maddie Hudson had a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds, while Chloe Rakauskas notched seven points and seven rebounds.
Swampscott (5-1) has a quick turnaround with a game against Triton Wednesday (5:30).
SWIMMING
Marblehead 94, Gloucester 79
The Magicians got wins from Cole Brooks in the 200 freestyle (1:53.41), Greg Podstrelov in the 200 individual medley (2:11.87), Owen Tortenson in the 50 freestyle (25.59), Jack Grady in diving (187 points) and Finn Berquist in the 100 butterfly (1:03.48).
Marblehead (5-0) swims against Swampscott Tuesday.
BOYS INDOOR TRACK
Everett 60, Lynn English 12
The lone winner on the day for the Bulldogs was Stephen Srey in the shot put (45-5), while Walter Estrada finished second in the 600 (1:57).
GIRLS INDOOR TRACK
Lynn English 43, Everett 37
English got wins from Abetty Kenghini in the shot put (28-10 1/2), Kendra Malcolm in the 55 dash (6:53) and Alicia Ramirez in the two-mile (15:46.8).
