The Winthrop boys hockey team picked up a non-conference victory at home Monday evening, knocking off Cambridge by a score of 4-2 at Larsen Rink.

Ari Hain led the way for the Vikings with two goals, while Pete Silverman had one goal and one assist. JD Parker added one goal as well, while Joe Hayes notched one assist.

After a scoreless first period, the Vikings couldn’t have gotten off to a better start in the second. Winthrop scored just 10 seconds into the frame, when Silverman slipped a pass across to a waiting Hain for the one-timer goal to make it 1-0. After Parker scored an unassisted goal about 10 minutes later, Winthrop took a 2-0 lead into the final period.

The Vikings added a goal from Silverman on a great feed from Hayes midway through the third period to go up by three goals, but Cambridge continued to fight and rattled off two quick ones of its own. Still, Winthrop was able to steady the ship and seal the win when Parker Hain scooped up a loose puck in the defensive zone and sent it all the way down the ice for an empty-net goal.

Winthrop (5-4-0) plays on the road at Somerville Wednesday (5:30).
