Man charged in Revere homicide

REVERE — A 33-year-old man has been charged with shooting a man to death near Thornton Street Monday morning, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Andre Alon Tripp, of Revere, was arraigned Tuesday in Chelsea District Court on charges of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Antwane Strickland, the DA’s office said.

Tripp pleaded not guilty and was ordered held without bail, the DA’s office said.

“I’m grateful to my office’s State Police detective unit and the Revere Police Department for their tireless work identifying and apprehending the individual accused of Strickland’s murder,” said Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden. “We will not tolerate such senseless violence in our communities, and those who would inflict such incredible and reckless harm should know that we will take every step to hold them accountable. My office is available to support Strickland’s loved ones and the Revere community that has been impacted.”

Revere Police responded to the area of Thornton Street at approximately 10:46 a.m. Monday after receiving a 911 call for help. Responding officers found Strickland suffering from a gunshot wound; Strickland was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died from his injuries, the DA’s office said.

The DA’s office said Tripp was arrested after an intensive investigation that included evidence such as witness statements, phone records and security-camera footage. Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Julie Higgins told the court that Strickland and Tripp were on Thornton Street Monday morning when their encounter escalated. Tripp allegedly drew a handgun during this encounter, shot Strickland and ran away from the scene, Higgins said.

Tripp will return to court on March 4.
