School Sports Roundup: Peabody/Lynnfield girls hockey knocks off Gloucester

The Peabody/Lynnfield girls hockey team picked up yet another crucial conference win in its quest for a fourth straight Northeastern Hockey League title, knocking off Gloucester by a score of 4-1 on the road at Talbot Rink Wednesday afternoon.

Jenna DiNapoli led the offensive attack for the Tanners with two goals, while Hannah Gromko and Shirley Whitmore each scored one goal. Alyssa Mutti, stepping in for normal starting goaltender Audrey Buckley, picked up the victory in net. 

Peabody/Lynnfield (8-2-1) hosts Beverly/Danvers Saturday (4).

GIRLS HOCKEY

Marblehead 4, Medford/Malden 2

The Magicians picked up the win behind goals from Hannah Tsouvalas, Ashley Piersol, Elsa Wood and Sophia Zerilli.

Marblehead (5-6-0) hosts Masconomet Saturday evening (6).

BOYS HOCKEY

Lynnfield 4, Triton 1

Chase Carney continued his stellar offensive season for the Pioneers, leading the way with two goals and an assist. Drew Damiani notched one goal and three assists, while Aidan Burke added one goal and one assist. Will Steadman had one assist. 

Lynnfield (10-2-0) hosts Newburyport Saturday (12).

Gloucester 7, Marblehead 3

Marblehead had its five-game unbeaten streak snapped on the road at Talbot Rink. 

Scoring for Marblehead were Hogan Sedky, Chris Locke and Lyndan Dyer.

Marblehead (4-5-1) plays on the road at Haverhill Monday (7).

Xaverian 2, St. John’s Prep 0

The Prep simply couldn’t get its high-powered offense going in a loss to fellow top-10 team and Catholic Conference foe Xaverian.

St. John’s Prep (10-2-0) hosts Malden Catholic Saturday (2).

Matignon 4, Saugus 3 (OT)

The Sachems pushed the game to overtime for the second outing in a row, but this time they came up on the wrong side of things.

Chris Regnetta scored two goals in the loss for Saugus, while Ryan Jones scored one goal.

Saugus (4-7-1) travels to Masconomet Saturday (1:30).

BOYS INDOOR TRACK

Marblehead 43, Swampscott 43
Swampscott 49, Masconomet 37

The Big Blue got wins from Vincenzo Videtta in the high jump (6-2), Ethan Gee and Michael Ferragamo in the 55 dash (7.0) and Cole Hamernick in the 300 (40.2).

Winners for Marblehead were Schuyler Schmitt in the 55 hurdles (8.9), Oliver Buckhoff in the 600 (1:32.4), Peter Clifford in the one-mile (4:53.4) and Ryan Thompson in the two-mile (10:41.3).

Peabody 77, Winthrop 8

Peabody 78, Saugus 7
Peabody 66, Salem 10

Winners for the Tanners were Jovante Dailey in the high jump (5-6), Konstandin Theodhori Jr. in the shot put (40-11), Benjamin Mckieman in the 50 hurdles (6.5), Daviel Canela in the 50 dash (5.1), Elijah Loring in the 600 (1:39.8) and Dylan Faletra in the one-mile (5:06.1). 

GIRLS INDOOR TRACK

Marblehead 52, Swampscott 33
Masconomet 58, Swampscott 28

Marblehead got wins from Devin Whalen in the 55 hurdles (9.3), Cate Trautman in the 55 dash (7.8), Lydia Bailey in the 600 (1:50.3), Claire Tips in the one-mile (5:59.5) and Katherine Simcoe in the two-mile (13:09.8).

Swampscott’s winners were Lillian Gosselin in the high jump (4-10) and Sofia Alvarado in the shot put (29-10).

Peabody 79, Salem 4

The Tanners got wins from Lindsey Wilson in the high jump (5-0) and the 50 hurdles (6.95), Trinity Cabrera in the shot put (32-9 3/4), Ava D’Ambrosio in the 50 dash (5.94), Savannah Vargas in the 300 (46.9), Madison Barrett in the 1000 (3:33.8), Samantha Simmons in the one-mile (6:13.1) and Leah O’Neill in the two-mile (13:34.6).
