LYNN — St. Mary’s High School commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day and the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau on Thursday.
Students in the Poland travel-study group held a ceremony to remember those who died in the Holocaust. In keeping with Jewish tradition, students placed stones in Saints Place out of respect for those whose lives were lost and to demonstrate that their memories will continue to live on.
Joel Abramson spoke to students about visiting Israel, the importance of his faith, and that even through darkness there is hope. He shared a message of fighting hate and anti-semitism with small acts of kindness, tolerance and hope.
The ceremony was closed out by reciting the mourner’s kaddish, a Hebrew prayer that is said after the loss of a loved one.
