LYNN — A 64-year-old Lynn woman was arrested on Monday and charged with stealing more than $50,000 in social-security benefits, the U.S. Attorney’s office said.
Teresa M. Carrington was charged with one count of theft of public funds and was released on conditions following an appearance in front of U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Judith G. Dein in federal court in Boston.
According to the indictment, Carrington allegedly stole at least $50,210 in social-security benefits from June 2016 through January 2020.
The charge of theft of public funds carries a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of $250,000, or twice the gross gain or loss, whichever is greater, prosecutors said.
