LYNN — Good Chemistry, the city’s fourth cannabis dispensary, opened its doors on Western Avenue Thursday afternoon to a crowd of local officials.
Among the crowd was Mayor Jared Nicholson, Ward 6 Councilor Fred Hogan and state Rep. Peter Capano (D-Lynn).
Good Chemistry’s founder, CEO and president, Matthew Huron, said he was excited to open the second Good Chemistry site in Massachusetts. The first site opened in Worcester in 2018.
“It is so great to finally be here in Lynn,” Huron said. “Originally we wanted to be open in 2019 but you had the pandemic and a ton of processes to go through, but at the end of the day, here we are.”
Nicholson, along with Capano, said the new dispensary would be a great asset for the city’s economy and help to create jobs.
“I think it’s great that Good Chemistry has come to our city,” Nicholson said. “It will bring good business to the city and help create jobs.”
“I agree 100 percent,” Capano added.
The dispensary sits in a 4,000-square-foot space and sells cannabis in many different forms — flower, gummies, candies or pre-rolls.
The cultivation facility where Good Chemistry grows its cannabis is located in Holliston, which was completed in 2021. More than 50 strains of cannabis from the dispensary are grown in the state.
Those who wish to buy cannabis from the dispensary must be 21 years of age or older and show valid identification at the front of the store. Huron said to ensure optimal security, cameras have been installed in every corner of the store.
“We have more cameras than a casino,” he joked. “We are making sure that everyone who wishes to buy our product is doing so legally.”
Huron, 48, has been growing cannabis since 2000 to help his father and partner — who both suffered from HIV — alleviate the pain caused from the disease and its side effects.
After both his father and partner died, Huron opened the Good Chemistry business in Colorado in 2010 where he opened four dispensaries.
It was through these experiences that Huron started his mission to help those in need by cultivating and selling cannabis, which eventually led him to Lynn.
He hopes that the business will be successful and personally thanked Nicholson and Hogan for their support in helping Good Chemistry build a foundation in the city.
“Without the city, we wouldn’t be here,” he said. “I want to thank them all for getting us where we need to be.”
