School Sports Roundup: Lynn Tech girls basketball punches state tournament ticket

The Lynn Tech girls basketball team punched its ticket to the upcoming state tournament with a win Thursday night, taking down Nashoba by a score of 43-27 in a Commonwealth Athletic Conference bout.

Jayleen Novas led the way for the Tigers with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Dayana Hios-Edwards had a big night with nine points, 15 rebounds, four blocks and four assists. Nyari Lane-Benjamin added 12 points and seven rebounds. 

Tech (10-4) hosts Innovation Academy Tuesday (5:30).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lynn Classical 42, Malden 40

After trailing by 13 points going into the fourth quarter, the Rams battled back and chipped away at the deficit until finally taking the lead in the last minute of play.

Ava Thurman and Akiyah Brown led the offensive attack with 12 points each, while Reese Brinkler added nine points in the win. Thurman scored nine of her 12 points in the fourth quarter, while Brinkler scored six of her nine points in the final frame. 

Classical (12-3) is off until Tuesday when it hosts Lynn English (7).

Lynn English 66, Everett 35

It was a big night for English’s Jaeleigh Perry, who put up a massive double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds and also added six steals on the defensive end. Rosie Chheang had 12 points, seven steals and four assists, while Makenzie Acevedo had 12 points, five assists and three rebounds. Jari Perez (12 points, five rebounds) and Alisha Jean (six points, 12 rebounds) also played well in the victory.

English (11-2) hosts Revere Monday (5:30).

Revere 50, Chelsea 40

Revere (9-5) travels to Lynn English Monday (5:30).

BOYS BASKETBALL

Everett 70, Lynn English 60

Tyrese Melo Garcia had 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the loss for the Bulldogs. 

English (10-3) plays on the road at Revere Monday (7).

Lynn Classical 63, Malden 49

Marquese Avery had a big game for Classical with 25 points, while Tyler Wilson wasn’t far behind with 18 points. Nate Reyes came up with a big defensive effort on the night, finishing with six points and 10 rebounds. 

Classical (6-7) travels to Lynn English Tuesday (7).

Chelsea 62, Revere 61

Revere (5-6) hosts Lynn English Monday (7).

BOYS HOCKEY

Minuteman 11, Lynn 6

Lynn (1-12-0) plays on the road at Everett Monday (5).
