The dynasty that is the St. John’s Prep wrestling program continued its incredible run of dominance over the weekend, capturing its third consecutive Division 1 Dual Meet State Championship with a 62-10 win over Franklin Saturday afternoon.
With Saturday’s victory, the Eagles have now gone 83-0-1 over the past three seasons.
The Prep got wins from Braedon Goes (106 pounds), Alex Schaeublin (113), Elias Hajali (120), Tyler Knox (126), Victor Mejias (132), Adam Schaeublin (138), Ryan DeSouza (145), Rawson Iwanicki (160), Matt Mitchell (170), Zach Richardson (182), Jack Blizard (220) and Charlie Smith (285).
St. John’s Prep finishes the season at a perfect 32-0.
WRESTLING
Marblehead/Swampscott at CAL/NEC Tournament (3rd place, 166 points)
Connor O’Brien won the 113-pound division, while Liam O’Brien placed fourth at 106 pounds, Devin DiBarri placed fourth at 120, Will Woodward finished sixth at 132, Noah Faverman finished third at 138, AJ Kluge finished sixth at 145, Nicolai Tarason finished fourth at 160, Jack Henry Landry finished fourth at 170, Diego Knight finished second at 182, Ned Fitzgerald finished second at 195, Mark Babineau finished fifth at 220 and Angelo Knight finished fourth at 285.
Saugus/Peabody at CAL/NEC Tournament (5th place, 143 points)
Saugus/Peabody had three overall winners, with Chase Ledbury taking 145 pounds, Christian Machado winning at 160 and Will Pinto took first at 170. Max LoRusso finished third at 120, Andrew Erickson finished fourth at 152, Giovanni Guglielmo finished fifth at 182, Tim Collins finished third at 220 and Tre Sanders finished third at 285.
Lynnfield at CAL/NEC Tournament (9th place, 45 points)
The Pioneers saw Gavin Ilby finish third at 132 pounds, David Glynn finish sixth at 120, James Fodera finish sixth at 170 and David Poirier finish sixth at 195.
BOYS BASKETBALL
St. Mary’s 61, Brockton 48
The Spartans got big performances from Omri Merryman (16 points), Ali Barry (14 points) and Anthony D’Itria (10 points) in the victory.
St. Mary’s (16-1) hosts Austin Prep Monday (6).
Swampscott 71, Belchertown 58
In a battle between two of the top 15 teams in Division 3, the Big Blue pulled away to earn their seventh straight victory.
Ryan Ward had a big game with 20 points, while Evan Roth wasn’t far behind with 15 points.
But Cam O’Brien was the star of the game, putting up a double-double with 10 points and 17 assists to go along with six rebounds. Mick Ross also had a double-double with 10 points and 19 rebounds, while Max Brodsky and Liam Wales each scored eight points.
Swampscott (9-4) plays on the road at Northeast Monday (7).
Peabody 74, Danvers 50
It was a true team effort in the win for the Tanners, but Anthony Forte led the attack with 21 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals.
Danny Barrett added 10 points, while Luke Roan filled the stat sheet with eight points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Nick Soper (eight points, five rebounds), Colin Berube (eight points) and Nathan Braz (six points, five rebounds) also played well.
Peabody (10-5) plays on the road at Whittier Tuesday evening (5:30).
St. John’s Prep 56, Methuen 34
Jacob Mercedes was the top scorer for the Eagles with 13 points, while Mike O’Brien and Kyle Webster each added 10 points. Stephon Patrick (nine points) and Jack Perry (eight points) also played well in the win.
St. John’s Prep (6-5) hosts Catholic Memorial Tuesday (6:30).
Melrose 71, Lynnfield 50
Lynnfield (1-15) travels to Newburyport Tuesday (6:30).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
St. Mary’s 60, North Andover 47
Yirsy Queliz scored 19 points to pace the offense for the Spartans, while Niya Morgen added 16 points. Bella Owumi (11 points) and Kellyn Preira (10 points) also played well.
St. Mary’s (17-2) is off until Friday (6:30) when it hosts Bishop Fenwick.

The Spartans picked up their third straight victory in a late-night game at Connery Rink on Senior Night Saturday
Jake Desmarais, Brandon Barone and Luke Bott each scored one goal in the win.

The Eagles got goals from Cam Umlah and Ben McGilvary in the victory, while Will Van Sicklin, Theo Vetere and Jake Vana each had one assist.
St. John’s Prep (13-2-0) plays on the road against Catholic Memorial Wednesday (7) at Warrior Ice Arena.
Marblehead 6, Winthrop 5 (OT)
It was senior captain Eli Feingold who picked up the game-winning goal early in overtime, lifting the Headers back to .500 on the season.
Feingold scored three goals in the victory, while Connor Jalbert scored two goals. Carter Laramie added one goal and one assist, while Aidan Ryan and Hogan Sedky each had two assists. Ryan Clay notched one assist.
Marblehead (6-6-1) takes on Swampscott Wednesday (7:30) at Rockett Arena.
Winthrop (5-6-1) hosts Beverly Tuesday afternoon (1:30).

The Tanners got two goals from Sarah Powers in the win, while Catie Kampersal and Ella Chase each scored one goal.
Peabody/Lynnfield (10-3-1) is off until Saturday (12) when it plays on the road at Newburyport.

Jenna Chaplain scored two goals in the win for the Spartans, while Maggie Pierce and Julia Lambert each scored one goal.

Julia Holmes led the way with two goals and one assist, while Amelia Spencer added one goal. Emma Holmes and Talia Martucci each had two assists, while goalie Summer Tallent made 15 saves in net.

Abi Bruner was the lone goal scorer for the Crusaders.
