The St. Mary’s boys hockey team kept its unbeaten streak alive Wednesday evening, picking up a 2-0 shutout victory over Bridgewater-Raynham in a non-conference battle on the road at Bridgewater Ice Center. The Spartans have now gone 4-0-1 in their last five games.
“It was a solid win against a really good team,” said St. Mary’s coach Mark Lee. “I’m proud of how the guys have been playing over this stretch for us, and now we’re hoping we can just keep it going.”
Brady Bullock and Eric Toto each scored one goal in the win for the Spartans, while goalie Owen Giangrande made 17 saves to pick up the shutout victory in net.
St. Mary’s (8-6-3) plays on the road at rival Bishop Fenwick Saturday evening (6) at McVann-O’Keefe Memorial Rink.
“It’s always a battle against those guys, you’ve just got to throw the records out the window,” said Lee. “We’re looking forward to an exciting matchup.”
BOYS HOCKEY
Catholic Memorial 6, St. John’s Prep 3
Despite a valiant comeback in the third period, the Eagles fell on the road and lost out on a chance to win the Catholic Conference.
Will Van Sicklin, Cole Blaeser and Jake Vana each scored one goal in the loss, while Tommy Sarni and Aidan Holland each had one assist.
St. John’s Prep (13-3-0) will host Newburyport in the annual Lt. Derek Hines Memorial Game Saturday (2) at Essex Sports Center.

Marblehead (7-6-1) hosts Danvers Saturday evening (6:30).

Behind a hat trick from Gabbi Oakes, the Spartans picked up a big Catholic Central League win on the road at Ed Burns Arena.
Julia Lambert added two goals in the win, while Maggie Pierce and Cara Donato each scored one goal.

Winthrop 1, Marblehead 0
The Vikings remained undefeated on the season with a shutout victory at Larsen Rink.
Emma Holmes scored the lone goal of the game late in the second period, knocking a puck loose at her own blue line and getting behind the defense for a breakaway score. Goalie Summer Tallent made 12 saves and earned the shutout win in net — setting a new program record with her 22nd career shutout. She passed former Item All-Star Gretchen Howard for the all-time program lead in shutouts.
Winthrop (11-0-1) is off until Sunday (2) when it plays on the road at Shawsheen.
Despite the loss, goalie Lily Francoeur had a great game in net for the Magicians.

Bishop Fenwick 75, Cardinal Spellman 65
Che Hanks had a big game with 25 points and seven assists, while Jason Romans put up a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Yentin added 19 points, while Nick Bowers scored 13 points. Robert Greener had a solid night off the bench, notching five steals and five assists.

Triton 66, Saugus 53
The Sachems got 17 points from Ben Tapia-Gately in the loss, while Ryan Mabee added 11 points.
Saugus (6-8) hosts Salem Friday (7).

Mike O’Brien led the way with 18 points for the Eagles, while Jacob Mercedes added 11 points. Kyle Webster scored seven points in the loss.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 58, Cardinal Spellman 45
Playing for the second night in a row, the Crusaders once again were led by the phenomenal play of sophomore Cecilia Kay. The forward put up a massive double-double, scoring 28 points and pulling down 18 rebounds to help secure the win.
Senior captain Nasha Arnold also had a great game, putting up a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.
