LYNN — A 50-year-old Lynn man died Tuesday afternoon after crashing his car into a telephone pole and tree on Euclid Avenue, the Essex County District Attorney’s office said.
The DA’s office identified the man as Marien Guzman.
Lynnfield Town Administrator Robert Dolan said Guzman worked as a custodian at Lynnfield Town Hall. He said he was saddened when he heard the news and the community and Select Board will miss Guzman.
“We are all in shock today, but we remember his smile and kindness, his unwavering work ethic and his great pride in his children and family,” said Dolan.
Lynnfield School Committee Chair Rich Sjoberg described Guzman as the “nicest, kindest” and most helpful man.
“I first met him at Huckleberry Hill School when I was PTO president,” said Sjoberg. “He was so well liked and respected that when we had events we would always try to clean it up so he didn’t have to do the work.”
Guzman died after crashing his 2019 Mazda CX-9 in the area of Euclid Avenue and Pine Point Road at approximately 2 p.m. He was the sole occupant in the car, the DA’s office said.
The car rolled onto its side following the crash, which left Guzman with life-threatening injuries. Lynn firefighters had to extricate the man from the car with the Jaws of Life; he was taken to Salem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the DA’s office and fire officials said.
The cause of death was identified as a heart attack.
There were no other injuries in the crash, which is under investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the Lynn Police Department.
