St. Mary’s boys and girls basketball and hockey teams went 1-for-4 in the Catholic Central League Classic finals Thursday night.

The lone victor was the boys basketball team, which raised its record to 21-1 with a 75-55 win over Archbishop Williams.

Omri Merryman led the way with 21 points and 14 rebounds.

“He had a monster game,” said coach Dave Brown.

Also in double figures were David Brown (20 points, nine rebounds, six assists), Henri Miraka and Ali Berry (10 points each).

St. Mary’s heads into the Spartan Classic this weekend.

At St. Mary’s, the Shamrocks jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but the Spartans fought back the entire way before coming up short.

Niya Morgen had 19 points and Yirsy Queliz had 17 in a losing effort.

“Heading into a one-and-done state tournament, we certainly can’t start a big game like that again,” said coach Jeff Newhall.

The Spartans have Senior Night on Sunday as they host the 24-team Spartan Classic all weekend.

At Tewksbury, Brady Bullock scored the Spartans’ only goal with assists from Danny Domeniconi and Tad Giardina in the first period.

Austin Prep, which tied the game in the second period, took the lead late in the third period and then scored an empty-net goal.

“I’m disappointed with the loss, but happy with the effort,” said coach Mark Lee. “It was a good high-school hockey game.”

St. Mary’s, 9-7-4, is out in Springfield this weekend for the Pope Francis tournament.

At Reading, the Spartans fell to 11-5-3, but got some measure of satisfaction in that they scored twice in the second period — only the sixth and seventh goals the Cougars have given up all year.

“It was good to get some goals,” said coach Frank Pagliuca. “We carried a lot of the play in the second period, and hit some posts.”

The Spartans play next this weekend against Notre Dame of Hingham.
