LYNN — Centerboard’s Family Forward Resource Center is hosting a nine-week, stress-support resource group beginning on Feb. 22 and running through April 19.
This resource group will be hosted through Zoom and focus on stress management and community resources that promote well-being.
All adults are welcome to join this group, which was also held during the fall, and will be offered on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to noon.
The Family Forward Resource Center (FRC) recognizes that this time doesn’t work for everyone, and is open to offering individual stress support during the evenings for people who are interested but aren’t available for the morning time slot.
“We’re interested in helping parents and any adult interested in getting support,” said Kate Jordan, a social work intern at Centerboard and helping to run the group.
Jordan is hosting the stress-support resource group with Pam Stewart, a clinician at FRC.
Jordan wanted to emphasize that this is a group about stress and wellbeing and is being held in a confidential space.
“We want to make sure that it’s a safe space for people to talk about common problems and solutions to everyday stressors,” Jordan said. “It’s really important that we do that in a space that is confidential and safe for people to share.”
This group is free and anyone who signs up will have to go through an intake registration process through FRC to make sure that this resource group is a good fit for them.
FRC offers a variety of programs, support groups and parenting groups. This stress-management class is an extension of that work and a response to the pandemic.
“We have a lot of parent support groups; we have support groups for LGBTQ+, so this stress-support group is in line with what we offer,” Jordan said.
FRC believes hosting these kinds of groups through Zoom is currently the safest way to operate them.
“For some people, it makes it much more accessible,” Jordan said. “If you can do a group from your home, that’s easier for some people. We do miss being in person but for right now, this is the safest option.”
