SALEM — A 35-year-old Lynn man was arrested and charged with trafficking drugs after signing for a package at a Salem business that contained 456 grams of cocaine, Salem Police said.
On Tuesday, Feb. 15, detectives from the Salem Police Criminal Investigation Division were alerted to the package by agents from the Department of Homeland Security, who relayed that it was going to be delivered to a Salem-based business, police said.
Federal agents were aware that the package — which came from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic — allegedly contained cocaine because they had intercepted it in another state, police said.
Working with special agents, the package was delivered to the business where they were met by Rodolfo Valintin Mora, who signed for the package. Mora was arrested and transported to the Salem Police Department, where he was booked without incident, police said.
After closer examination of the package, it was found to contain thin, vacuum-sealed plastic bags concealed in four different panels of the cardboard box. Inside of the bags was a white paste-like substance consistent with cocaine. When weighed, the cocaine came to 456 grams, police said.
Mora was charged with trafficking more than 200 grams of cocaine, police said.
The Salem-based business cooperated with Salem Police and the Department of Homeland Security during the investigation, police said.
