Endicott men’s basketball graduate student Stephen Fama (Lynnfield) has received College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team honors, as announced by the organization.

Fama, who graduated from St. Mary’s, will now appear on the national ballot for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, which will be voted on by Sports Information Directors (SIDs) across the country in mid-March.

Fama is the third student-athlete in program history to claim CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors. He is joined on the list by Matt McDevitt ’21 (Cumberland, Maine) and two-time selection Max Motroni ’17 (West Warwick, R.I.).

Fama also was the only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) student-athlete selected as a CoSIDA) Academic All-District honoree.

The CoSIDA Academic All-America program is the longest running and most prestigious academic and athlete award for student-athletes. The program receives 20,000 nominations yearly and selects 4,000 all-district and 1,500 All-America honorees each year. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program was established in 1952.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Fama currently sports a 4.0 GPA as a M.S. in Sport Leadership graduate student.

Fama came to Endicott from New England College (NEC) where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts in sports and recreation management and a minor in business in three years.

The 2021 graduate finished his academic career at NEC with a 3.95 GPA (4.0 in his major), was named to the Dean’s List every semester, and received summa cum laude recognition. He also was a member of the men’s basketball (captain) and baseball teams during his time at NEC.

Additionally, Fama was a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Student-Athlete and Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership honor societies, co-founder of the NEC Sport and Recreation Management club, a multiple New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Academic honoree for men’s basketball and baseball, an admissions ambassador, recruit host, a peer tutor for student-athletes, and a member of NEC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC).

Aside from his coursework, Fama has been heavily involved in the personal-trainer space working at Sonny’s Boxing and Fitness (2020-21) and Repertoire Fitness (2017-18) as well as serving as an individual basketball trainer.

Fama’s experiential learning has consisted of designing and implementing workout programs for clients ranging from grade school to high-school-plus levels, creating fitness goals, assisting and supervising workouts, managing/booking clients and classes, and creating strategic plans for social media and operating applicable programs.

On the court this season for the Gulls, Fama is averaging 6.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals, and 22.5 minutes per game in 22 contests on the year.

Fama enters this week’s CCC Tournament quarterfinal round matchup on the road against Suffolk fresh off his first double-double as a Gull (six at NEC) behind 11 points and 10 rebounds in Endicott’s 90-71 blowout win over the Rams last Saturday.
