The Winthrop girls hockey team made it dramatic Thursday night, as the No. 16 Vikings scored twice in the final two minutes of the game to pick up a 3-1 win over No. 17 Longmeadow in a Division 1 tournament Round of 32 game at Larsen Rink.
Emma Holmes scored two goals to lead the way, while Amelia Spencer was the hero of the night with the game-winning goal with 2:14 left in the third period. Talia Martucci added two assists, while goalie Summer Tallent made 20 saves to earn her 58th career win. Her 18th win of the year also breaks a program record that was previously held by former NWHL No. 1 overall pick and Lynn native Katie Burt.
Winthrop (18-0-1) will now move on to the Round of 16, where — barring an upset of epic proportions — it will likely face off against undefeated No. 1 Austin Prep at a date and time to be determined.
