Tournament Roundup: Bishop Fenwick boys basketball moves on with victory

The No. 10 Bishop Fenwick boys basketball team kicked off its state tournament run with a bang, picking up a 77-30 win over No. 23 Belchertown in a Division 3 tournament Round of 32 game Saturday afternoon.

Jason Romans led the scoring attack for the Crusaders, notching a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds. Che Hanks had an incredible triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, while Mike Yentin added 19 points. Gianni Mercurio had a big game with 15 rebounds. 

Fenwick (11-10) now moves on to the Round of 16, where the Crusaders will go on the road to face off against No. 7 New Mission Tuesday evening (6:30) at the Reggie Lewis Center. 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Division 4 Round of 32

Cathedral 84, Winthrop 56

The Vikings played three solid quarters out of four in the loss Saturday afternoon, but a 37-7 run by Cathedral in the second quarter sealed Winthrop’s fate. 

Chris Cappuccio led the offensive attack for the Vikings with 22 points. 

Winthrop wraps up the year at 8-13.

BOYS HOCKEY

Division 1 Round of 32

Arlington 6, Bishop Fenwick 0

The Crusaders struggled all night on the road against the No. 6 Spy Ponders, falling behind early and having to play catch-up for the entire game. 

Fenwick closes the season at 7-10-4.

Division 4 Round of 32

Winthrop 4, Rockport 0

Joey Holgersen led the way for the No. 5 Vikings with two goals, while Joe Hayes and James Sicurella each scored one goal. Goalie Anthony Indrisano earned the shutout victory in net. 

Winthrop (11-9-1) moves on to the Round of 16, where it will host No. 12 Shawsheen Wednesday evening (6:10) at Larsen Rink.
