The St. Mary’s girls basketball team continued its run of dominant play Monday night, as the No. 2 Spartans took down No. 18 North Reading by a score of 80-56 in a Division 3 tournament Round of 16 game at Tony Conigliaro Gymnasium.

Kellyn Preira led the offensive attack for St. Mary’s with 25 points, while Yirsy Queliz wasn’t far behind with 17 points. Niya Morgen (14 points) and AJ Hyacinthe (13 points) also played well in the victory for the Spartans.

St. Mary’s (22-3) will now move on to the Division 3 quarterfinal round, where the Spartans will take on either No. 7 Watertown or No. 10 Norton at a date and time to be determined.

Division 1 Round of 16

Xaverian 4, St. Mary’s 2

Despite once again battling back from a two-goal deficit to have a chance to tie, the No. 15 Spartans simply ran out of magic against the No. 2 team in Division 1 on the road at Canton Ice House.

“The result obviously isn’t what we wanted, but I couldn’t be more proud of the fight and effort that this team showed from start to finish,” said St. Mary’s coach Mark Lee. “We went up against a team that had 15 seniors and ended up making it a 3-2 game in the third, and that’s all you can ask for from a young group like this.”

Daniel Domeniconi and Cam McGonagle each scored one goal in the loss for the Spartans, while Jake Desmarais, Christian Iacoviello and Luke Bott each had one assist.

St. Mary’s closes out the season at 11-8-5.

Division 2 Round of 16

Gloucester 6, Marblehead 4

The Magicians got two goals from Christopher Locke in the loss, while Connor Jalbert and Eli Feingold scored one goal each. Carter Laramie finished the game with four assists.

Marblehead finishes up the year at 10-9-2.

The immovable object that was the Vikings met an unstoppable force in the No. 1 Cougars Monday night in a battle of unbeatens, and it was Austin Prep who came out on top in that fight.

Winthrop finishes up the season at 18-1-1.
