The Bishop Fenwick boys basketball team enjoyed a special moment Wednesday night when senior guard Jason Romans scored his 1,000th career point, but the No. 10 Crusaders finished the night in heartbreak after dropping an 80-79 game to No. 7 New Mission in a Division 3 tournament Round of 16 game on the road at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Romans finished the game with 11 points and added 10 assists in the loss.

Che Hanks was the leading scorer for the Crusaders with 29 points, while Mike Yentin wasn’t far behind with 20 points. Gianni Mercurio had another solid night with eight points, while Robert Greener finished with four points and five steals.

Fenwick finishes the season at 11-11.

BOYS HOCKEY

Division 4 Round of 16

Shawsheen 5, Winthrop 3

The Vikings battled back and forth all night with No. 12 Shawsheen, but Winthrop could never get itself out in front in a loss at Larsen Rink.

Senior captains JD Parker and Ari Hain each scored one goal in the loss for the Vikings, while sophomore Pete Silverman added a goal as well. Freshman Phil Boncore had one assist in the losing effort.

Winthrop finishes the season at 11-10-1.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Division 1 Round of 16

Arlington 2, Peabody/Lynnfield 1

The Tanners jumped out ahead in the first period, but Arlington tied the game up late in the second before an early goal in the third period decided things.

The lone goal for Peabody/Lynnfield came from freshman Shirley Whitmore on a scramble in front of the net.

Peabody/Lynnfield closes out the year at 16-5-1.
