MARBLEHEAD — Community activist Jenny Armini has announced her candidacy for state representative for the 8th Essex District.
Citing her previous work in the Massachusetts government, U.S. Congress, and her role as a local organizer, Armini pledged to leverage her unique experience to serve as an effective advocate for the people of Marblehead, Swampscott, and Lynn.
“I have seen firsthand the challenges facing our communities as we recover from a worldwide pandemic — from rising sea levels along our coast to rising costs of living,” said Armini, who lives in Marblehead. “We must combat climate change with urgency, fight to protect women’s reproductive rights, and work to ensure that our schools and communities have the resources they need to support every child’s academic, social, and emotional well-being.
“I passionately believe in the power of bringing people together to solve tough problems. As our next state representative, I will do exactly that.”
A graduate of Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, Armini has diverse experience as a policy and communications expert. She began her career as a senior legislative aide on Capitol Hill, focusing on education, health care, and reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights.
She brought that experience with her to the Massachusetts Department of Revenue, where she worked to strengthen the commonwealth’s child-support enforcement laws. Later, Armini launched policy discussions on Beacon Hill as the head of communications for MassINC, a nonpartisan think tank.
“Jenny is the leader this district needs in the State House,” said Erin Noonan, a Marblehead selectman. “She’s smart, accessible, and committed to our communities. Best of all, she works her heart out.”
Armini has also been a dedicated community leader, organizing local activists and channeling their energy into national results. In 2016, she co-founded ElectBlue, a grassroots political group dedicated to electing Democrats to the U.S. House and Senate in 2018. Armini brought together the community for political briefings, postcard nights, and fundraising events.
“Jenny sees a need in the community and works incredibly hard to find a solution,” said Maureen Kay, who co-founded ElectBlue with Armini. “She consistently demonstrates the kind of leadership that pulls people together to create meaningful, local change.”
“Our communities are historic, yet dynamic ― and full of promise,” said Armini. “I will work tirelessly to be an accessible representative who puts the well-being and interests of every 8th Essex resident above all else.”
