To the editor:
The endorsement letter to the editor supporting Lynnfield School Committee candidate Corrie Luongo (Item, Mar. 18) included incorrect information about a Lynnfield Public Schools curriculum resource.
The writer stated that curriculums such as Facing History and Ourselves “omit perspectives of ‘bad’ figures in history.”
Facing History is an educational nonprofit founded in 1976. Focused on the Holocaust and genocide, they provide curriculum and training for educators across the United States.
Over the years, they have included curriculum units on the Armenian and Cambodian genocides, on democracy and recently a new curriculum, Confronting Apartheid, co-written with the Boston University African Studies Center.
These curriculum topics surely provide plenty of perspective on bad figures in history.
