To the editor:
Tough-talking armchair warriors in the U.S. are advocating a “no-fly zone” over Ukraine. What does that mean? It means that the U.S. war machine will try to destroy all Russian aircraft in Ukraine and bomb all their supporting troops and structures on the ground.
Russia will quickly respond with enough force to shock and awe the U.S. population. Biden will then get to choose between World War III and negotiation.
In other words, the most likely result of that “no-fly zone” will be World War III — nuclear annihilation.
The American chickenhawks are so arrogant and power-crazed that they believe Putin will back down and remove his troops from Ukraine. Unfortunately, those chickenhawks are willing to bet the lives of all Americans on their fantasy.
The facts are that Russia has enough nuclear bombs to transform the United States into a large pile of rubble ― just like the U.S. has enough nuclear bombs to do the same to Russia.
Putin will not be bullied by Biden or anyone else. Every sane person, including President Biden, believes that no one will win a nuclear war. However, the pressure on the president to escalate is growing. Government officials such as U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham and U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger have called for the assassination of President Putin.
Biden has accused Putin of being a murderer and a war criminal. But Putin has not insulted anyone.
Here is a brief history of what brought us here: On Feb. 9, 1990, during the process of German reunification, Western leaders, including President George H.W. Bush gave assurances to Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and other Soviet officials that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) would not expand eastward toward Russia.
The National Security Archive at George Washington University is my reference for then U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s pledge stating NATO would move “not one inch eastward.”
The U.S. government quickly broke their word and started expanding eastward.
Starting in 2000, Putin has been saying that his country will not allow the United States and NATO to absorb Ukraine.
He will not allow us or anyone else to place weapons of mass destruction on the Russian border with Ukraine just like we will not allow Russia or anyone else to place nuclear weapons on the U.S. border.
He has repeatedly made it clear that the Russian government would view those weapons on its border as an “existential” threat. It is a “red line” that must not be crossed. He has been politely asking and pleading for a security pact with the U.S. which will guarantee the security of Russia’s western border in line with what was agreed to in 1990.
So far, his perfectly reasonable request has been met with silence, derision, and personal insults by cowards who would never insult him or anyone else to their faces.
Adding insult upon insult, Biden said that NATO is open to any country who wants to join. NATO membership for Ukraine means that the U.S. would be allowed to place nuclear weapons on the Russian border.
The U.S puppet, Zelenskyy, said that he wanted to develop his own nuclear weapons. Putin responded to that arrogance by invading Ukraine and putting his nuclear arsenal on high alert. His years of asking and pleading for equal security are over.
The invasion could have been avoided if Biden said that NATO membership is not open to Ukraine or Zelenskyy agreed not to join NATO. Putin has even offered to instantly withdraw all his troops as soon as his security request has been met.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if you keep poking a bear in the eye with a stick? Well, now you know.
To all the know-nothings in the West who say that the Ukrainian military just needs more billions in weapons: Nonsense. If Putin was not concerned about civilian casualties, he would have laid waste to Kiev on the first day of the invasion. The war would have been over on day one with few or no Russian losses.
He could have done to Kiev what the U.S military has done to many cities in many countries that it has bombed and invaded.
