LYNN — The 44th annual Lynn Elementary Basketball Tournament tipped off its final week Wednesday afternoon at Thurgood Marshall Middle School, as eight girls teams battled it out in the semifinal round for a chance to make it to their respective championship games.

The day’s first game pitted Division 1 schools No. 3 Cobbet and No. 2 Ford in a battle, with the lower-seeded team pulling out the 18-10 upset. Si’Niyah Coates led the way for Cobbet in the win with eight points, while Aniyah Centcio paced the Ford offense with four points.

Also in Division 1, No. 1 Ingalls went up against No. 5 Connery and pulled off the big 16-1 win. Ayelene Nolasco Esteban led the way for the winning team with six points.

With the conclusion of those two games, the Div. 1 championship game is now set — Ingalls will take on Cobbet Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

There were also two Div. 3 girls games played Wednesday, and both were close games that came down to the wire.

It started with the matchup between No. 3 Lynn Woods and No. 2 Sewell-Anderson, where the lower-seeded Wolves opened the game with an 8-0 run before holding on for a 15-12 upset victory. Tahlia Gallo (five points) and Aria Saleh (four points) led the offensive attack for Lynn Woods, while Sewell-Anderson’s Lyla Maes was the game’s high scorer with eight points.

The final matchup of the night had No. 1 Aborn host No. 5 Callahan, and the game was a back-and-forth battle from the jump. Eventually though, Aborn was able to lock down on defense and secure a close 12-10 victory. Juliana Gerardo paced the Aborn offense with eight points, while Kalea Johnson had a huge game for Callahan with five points and eight steals.

Aborn and Lynn Woods will open up the championship action Saturday with a 10 a.m. tip-off for the Div. 3 title.

The final four semifinal games of the 44th Lynn Elementary Basketball Tournament will be played Friday afternoon back at Marshall Middle School.
