MARBLEHEAD — An overflow crowd of classmates, friends and family attended the funeral Mass for James R. Galante at Our Lady, Star of the Sea, a Catholic church in town, Monday morning.
Galante, 18, died from injuries in a crash on March 18 on the causeway, leading to Marblehead Neck, less than a half a mile from his home.
Galante’s casket was carried by his Marblehead High School football teammates through an honor guard, which was also made up of his teammates.
Dahlia Galante, James’s older sister, flanked on the altar by his No. 19 MHS jersey, gave a heartfelt remembrance of her brother.
“James, I am sorry that it is only through loss that I have been able to understand life’s indispensable necessities, but I promise to forever be grateful for all that you have left behind for me to apply,” she said. “While you will no longer be physically with us, I will always have three little brothers who I will love and protect with all my heart. Until we meet again.”
