LYNN — Five people were displaced after a fire broke out at a three-family home on Estes Street Monday night, the Fire Department said.
One alarm was struck for the fire, which occurred at 30 Estes St. No one was injured in the blaze, Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer said.
Archer said at 6:08 p.m., the department received a call for a fire in a small room on the third floor of the house. Lynn firefighters arrived at the scene moments after the call, he said.
A third-floor resident, Victoria Quinonez, said she tried to put out the fire with a small fire extinguisher, but was unsuccessful.
The family who lived on the third floor — three adults and one infant — were able to self-evacuate from the house before firefighters arrived. Another adult family member, Quinonez’s brother, was not at home during the fire.
“When I got home from work, I saw smoke coming from the third floor and I called the Fire Department right away,” said Quinonez. “I’m still in shock about what happened.”
Archer said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but storage and combustible materials on the third floor made things difficult for them.
The department’s Fire Investigation Unit is trying to determine the cause of the fire, Archer said.
The second and third floors of the house sustained fire and water damage, and the third-floor residents have been temporarily displaced, Archer said.
“The Fire Department has contacted the Red Cross to help find shelter for the family for the time being,” said Archer.
