LYNN — A well-known pizza shop on Lynnfield Street had to temporarily shut down Wednesday night after a car crashed into the building, according to its owner.
Jim Fauci, the owner of Fauci Pizza, was not present at the time of the crash, but was on scene about an hour later talking with a board-up company and city inspector about the damage to the building.
Fauci said that he planned to close the shop for the night, but declined further comment.
Lynn District Fire Chief Joseph Zukas said the Fire Department responded to the crash at approximately 5:30 p.m. He said the collision occurred after a woman hit the gas pedal by mistake, which sent her car into the building.
There was damage to the building, but the woman was not injured, Zukas said.
“It was a pretty good accident, but no injuries,” said Zukas. “It could have been a lot worse.”
Most of the damage consisted of a large hole at the bottom of one side of the building, at the area that faced the shop’s small parking lot. But a representative of the board-up company that responded to the scene showed The Item a long crack in the front of the building that also appeared to be caused by the crash.
A city inspector who responded to the scene said he did not have a cost estimate for the damage.
