Winthrop pitcher Zach Bogusz started off his 2022 season in stellar fashion Tuesday afternoon, needing only 57 pitches to breeze through four innings to notch a shortened no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Boston Collegiate Charter at Veterans Memorial Field.
Bogusz struck out seven batters and walked only two in the victory.
On the offensive side of things, the Vikings were led by Joe Hayes (2-for-3, home run, three RBI) and Pete Silverman (1-for-2, two RBI), while Cam Martin, Cam Kinsella and Evan Rockerfeller each had one RBI.
Winthrop (1-0) plays on the road at Marblehead Friday (4).
BASEBALL
St. Mary’s 4, Bishop Fenwick 2
Senior ace Aiven Cabral led the way on both sides of the ball in the win for the Spartans, tossing a complete game on the mound and adding a home run and an RBI at the plate. Cabral allowed two runs (one earned) on seven hits with 11 strikeouts.
Also contributing to the win for St. Mary’s was Zach Fisher, who came up with two hits and two RBI. Cam McGonagle went 1-for-3 with a double, while Tommy Falasca and John Nowicki each had one hit.
St. Mary’s (2-0) hosts Austin Prep Friday (4).
The lone RBI for the Crusaders came from Nick Villano, while Costa Beechin, Chris Faraca and Jacob Behn had two hits apiece.
Fenwick ( 0-2) travels to Newburyport Friday (4).
Swampscott 10, Marblehead 7 (F/6)
It was a bit of a strange scene at Seaside Park Tuesday, where Marblehead’s furious rally was cut short when the game was called for darkness and the final score reverted back to the score after six full innings.
Cam O’Brien led the offensive attack for the Big Blue, hitting a three-run home run and notching five RBI. Matt Schroeder picked up five hits of his own and scored three runs.
Swampscott (1-0) hosts Salem Friday (4).
Marblehead (0-2) hosts Winthrop Friday (4).
Lynn Tech 9, KIPP 1
The Tigers opened up the season with a big win at Fraser Field, as Ben Tartarini picked up the win on the mound after tossing the first five innings. Jared Paone picked up the save.
At the plate, Domenic Giordano and Josh Celly each went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the way, while Wesley Morales and Kolby Bucklin each had a hit and drove in a run.

Billerica 8, St. John’s Prep 4
The Eagles played a back-and-forth game on the road, but a five-run bottom of the fourth helped seal the win for Billerica.
Nick Solitro, Aidan Driscoll and Tucker Larson each had an RBI in the loss for the Prep, while Shane Williams picked up two hits — including a triple.

St. Mary’s 11, Bishop Fenwick 0
Senior pitcher Lily Newhall — who struck out 14 batters Tuesday — hit a milestone mark by surpassing 400 career strikeouts in the win, while Anna Fringuelli helped seal the shutout win with two innings and four strikeouts of her own.
Michaela Walker led the offensive attack with three hits.
St. Mary’s (2-0) plays on the road at Austin Prep Friday (3:45).
Fenwick ( 0-1) hosts Arlington Catholic Friday (3:30).
Lynn English 8, Revere 5
Janessa Lopez earned the complete-game victory with seven strikeouts in the circle, and she also went 1-for-3 with a double at the plate. Autumn Whitney went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Kate Johansson went 1-for-3 with two RBI and Jari Perez went 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBI.
English (1-0) is now off until next Wednesday (6) when it hosts Everett.
Saugus 15, Winthrop 3 (F/5)
Fallon Millerick had a huge all-around day, earning the win in the circle after tossing a complete game and striking out seven batters and also contributing at the plate with two hits and two RBI.
Felicia Reppucci led the offensive attack with three RBI, while Ava Rogers and Ryann Moloney each had two RBI. Taylor Delieidi went 2-for-3 and picked up her first two career varsity hits.
Saugus (1-0) takes on Salem Thursday (4:30).

Senior Ariella Long led the way with a three-run triple and five total RBI, while freshman Zoe Wilson went 3-for-4 with a triple and four RBI.

Nick Salvati had two goals and one assist to pace the offense in the loss, while Tyler Kalloo scored two goals. Jonathan Lucas added one goal, while Cam Collins had two assists and Matthew Bettencourt had one assist. Junior goalie Derek Patturelli had 10 saves for the Tanners.

Tommy Sarni had three goals and three assists to lead the way for the Eagles, while Jake Vana and Jimmy Ayers each had two goals and two assists. Noah Brown and Rowan Mondello each had one goal and one assist, while Luke Kelly, Jackson Delaney, Matt Morrow and Harlan Graber each had one goal. Will Sawyer, Nate Jones and Jack Doherty each had one assist.
