The Peabody softball team picked up its first win of the young season Wednesday afternoon, riding a huge performance from star pitcher Abby Bettencourt to a 12-4 victory over Danvers at Great Oak Field.
The Tanners jumped ahead early and never looked back in this one, scoring seven runs in the top of the first.
Bettencourt got the job done on both sides of the field Wednesday, tossing a complete game in the circle and adding four hits — including two triples — and five RBI at the plate. Penelope Spack added two hits — one of them a home run — and three RBI of her own in the victory for the Tanners.
Peabody (1-1) hosts Gloucester Friday (4).

Marblehead (0-1) is right back in action Thursday (4) with a home game against Beverly.
BOYS LACROSSE
Lynn 13, Revere 0
The Jets picked up their first win of the year behind a five-goal performance from Steven Difilippo.
Stevan Downey picked up four goals and one assist in the win, while Nick Costa, Ethan Wilson and Ian Brown each scored one goal.
Lynn (1-1) hosts Medford Tuesday night (7) at Manning Field.
Revere (0-2) plays on the road at Medford Thursday (4).
BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK
Peabody 123, Saugus 7
The Tanners got wins from Peter Gardikas in the shot put (47-7), Shea Lynch in the javelin (136-5) and Ben McKieman in the 110 hurdles (18.25 seconds).
Other strong performances came from Paul Dominic Drillon in the triple jump (second place, 36-1), Alex Jackson in the shot put (second place, 44-11 1/4), Adam Tarhet in the shot put (third place, 43-4), Sam Farhat in the discus (second place, 105-8), Matthew Richards in the javelin (second place, 133-1), Dominic Scalese in the javelin (third place, 126-3), Eli Batista in the 100 (second place, 11.6), Marco Desimone Jr. in the 200 (third place, 24.9), Anthony Forte in the 400 (third place, 56.4), Joshua Trelegan in the one-mile (second place, 5:11) and Logan Tracia in the two-mile (third place, 10:58.9).
Swampscott 91, Winthrop 40
Joey Do was a double-winner for Swampscott, grabbing victories in the long jump (20-11) and the triple jump (40-11 1/2). Vincent Videtta picked up a win in the high jump (5-10).
Also performing well for the Big Blue were Ethan Gee in the discus (third place, 101-1), Colby Godwin in the 400 hurdles (second place, 1:07.7), Xaviah Bascon in the 100 (third place, 11.7), Jamie Godwin in the 400 (second place, 55.9), Szymon Wabno in the 800 (second place, 2:13) and James Kimbro in the 800 (third place, 2:17).
The lone win for Winthrop came from Nick Cappuccio in the 100 (11.5).
Marblehead 94, Gloucester 42
The Magicians got wins from Hayden Leveroni in the discus (101-8), Errol Apostolopoulos in the 110 hurdles (17.5), Dylan Rose in the 100 (11.3), Sebastian Pantzer in the 200 (24.1) and Ryan Thompson in the 800 (2:02.9).
Newburyport 102, Lynnfield 43
Winners for the Pioneers in the season opener were Nick Marcinowski in the shot put (38-7), Anthony Attubato in the long jump (19-9 3/4), Joe Cucciniello in the triple jump (39-1) and Ryan Hooper in the javelin (117-9).
Lynnfield (0-1) hosts Amesbury Monday (4).
GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK
Peabody 90, Saugus 20
The Tanners got wins from Aaliyah Callahan in the shot put (33-6), Samantha Simmons in the javelin (66-10), Gina Martinello in the 400 hurdles (1:18.3), Savanna Vargas in the 100 (12.9), Yosmery Batista in the 200 (27.7) and Sarah DiVasta in the two-mile (12:33).
Other strong performances for Peabody came from Trinity Cabrera in the shot put (second place, 30-0), Jessica Richards in the discus (84-2), Lindsey Wilson in the 100 hurdles (18.3) and Samantha Simmons in the one-mile (6:11).
Saugus got two wins from Jessica Bremberg, one in the triple jump (31-10) and one in the 400 (1:05.7), while she also finished second in the long jump (15-1 3/4).
Swampscott 73, Winthrop 54
Swampscott got a win from Sofia Alvarado in the discus (87-11), while the Big Blue got solid performances from Jamila Oriakhi in the shot put (third place, 29-5 1/2), Anastasia Hayes in the discus (third place, 81-4), Stella Sands in the javelin (second place, 54-5), Olivia King in the 800 (2:43.9) and Ava Malone in the one-mile (third place, 6:15).
Marblehead 94, Gloucester 42
Winners for the Magicians were Claire Davis in the long jump (16-4), Marrietta O’Connell in the discus (68-1) and Devin Whalen in the javelin (70-0).
