School Sports Roundup: Marblehead boys lacrosse knocks off Masconomet

Connor Cronin put up a stellar nine-point performance for the Marblehead boys lacrosse team Saturday afternoon, helping to lift the Magicians to a 17-9 win over Masconomet at Piper Field. 

Cronin finished with five goals and four assists in the win.

Charlie Grenier led the scoring attack with six goals, while Josh Robertson added four goals and three assists. Carter Laramie had one goal and three assists and Cole Gallup had one goal and two assists, while Kai Bontaites and Gio Garobotto each had one assist. Goalie Finn Maniaci made nine saves to earn the victory in net. 

Marblehead (3-2) will host Danvers Thursday morning (10) at Piper Field. 

BOYS LACROSSE

Acton-Boxborough 8, St. John’s Prep 4

The defending state champion Eagles faced their toughest test of the year on the road Saturday night, coming up short behind the Colonials’ stifling defense and strong goaltending. 

Will Sawyer, Luke Kelly, Noah Brown and Chris Esposito each scored one goal in the loss, while Teddy Cullinane made nine saves in net. Esposito won eight of his 16 faceoffs. 

St. John’s Prep (5-1) will make the trek down to Connecticut for a Tuesday morning (10) matchup against Staples High School. 

GIRLS LACROSSE

Masconomet 13, Marblehead 2

Hadley Wales and Sydney Langton each scored one goal in the loss for the Magicians, while Gigi Lombardi had one assist. Goalie Kate Santeusanio made six saves in net. 

Marblehead (2-4) hosts Reading Tuesday morning (10).

BASEBALL

Reading 11, Lynn Classical 2

The Rams had trouble getting any momentum going in Saturday night’s loss. 

Darnell Leon scored both runs in the loss for Classical, while Almani Medina, Tyler Wilson and Brady Warren each had a hit for the Rams.

Lynn Classical (5-1) takes on rival Lynn English Monday (4) at Fraser Field. 

Lynnfield 8, Wakefield 3

Lynnfield (1-2) plays on the road at Newburyport Tuesday morning (10).
