SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott girls lacrosse team simply couldn’t get any consistency going on the offensive side of the field Tuesday afternoon, as the Big Blue fell to Northeastern Conference foe Danvers by a score of 17-6 at Blocksidge Field.
Jordan Turcotte and Eliana Anderson both led the scoring for the Falcons with near-identical stat lines, both finishing with five goals and one assist. Kaylee Rich, Sabrina Auciello and Abby Sher all had two goals apiece, with Rich notching three assists and Auciello notching two.
Coco Clopton took control of the offense for the Big Blue with four goals, while Broghan Laundry and Brooke Waters each had one goal and one assist.
“This was just one of those games where we couldn’t get anything going,” said Swampscott coach Al Eaton. “We didn’t look like the same team that we were in practice. There were a lot of mistakes, even on a fundamental level, that we just didn’t execute on and we need to be better.”
Unfortunately for the Big Blue, they were unable to get anything going on offense or defense as the Falcons were able to score at will and control the ball for a majority of the contest. The first half was where the damage was mainly done, as the Falcons were able to go up 10 (12-2) going into the halftime break.
“Honestly, coming into today we just needed to bounce back,” said Danvers coach Nico Prandi. “Last game we got crushed by Masco. We just needed to go out, execute and play better. I think we did that (Tuesday).”
One bright light for Danvers was sophomore goalie Megan McGinity, who finished with eleven saves.
“Megan is only a second year lacrosse player, and she came out and performed great today,” said Prandi. “She stepped up really big when we needed her to, and I couldn’t be more proud.”
The second half saw the Big Blue show signs of life, as they were able to get four quick goals before the Falcons could get anything going. However, the second half turned into a mirror image of the first half once the Falcons regained control of the gameflow.
“Nico puts together a fantastic program over there, and they’re always a hard team to beat,” said Eaton. “Hopefully, we can bounce back from this and next time we meet them we can make it a game, like we thought we could today.”
Danvers (4-1) is set to host Marblehead on Thursday (10) as it tries to keep its momentum going.
Swampscott (2-2) is now off until Tuesday (4) when it hosts Salem back at Blocksidge Field.
