The St. Mary’s baseball team got its three-game stretch in Myrtle Beach started off on the right foot Wednesday afternoon, picking up a 2-0 win over Ocean Township (N.J.).
In the opening game of the Spartans’ trip, Aiven Cabral shut down the Ocean Township offense in a complete-game, 10-strikeout effort in which he only allowed two hits. He also led the way on the offensive end for St. Mary’s, going 2-for-2 with a double and one run scored. John Nowicki (1-for-3), and Tad Giardina (0-for-3) each had one RBI in the victory.
St. Mary’s (4-2) closes out its Myrtle Beach trip with a Friday doubleheader. The first game will be against Niles Valley (Ohio) at 9 a.m., followed by a bout with Highland Regional (N.J.) at 11:45 a.m.
BASEBALL
Lynn Classical 8, Somerville 2
Juniel Guzman paced the Classical offense with three RBI, while Christian Spates added two RBI. Tyler Wilson went 2-for-2 with one RBI, two stolen bases and two runs scored, while Knico Ramirez also had two hits in the win.
Kyle Durant had a big day on both sides of the field, earning the win on the mound after going five innings and allowing no earned runs on three hits with three walks and nine strikeouts and also going 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored at the plate.
Lynn Classical (7-1) is right back in action Thursday (4) at home against Swampscott.
Marblehead 11, Salem 1 (F/5)
Schuyler Schmitt went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI to lead the Magicians in the win, while Andrew Titus went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Brady Lavender went 0-for-2 with two RBI, while Liam McIlroy (1-for-2), Shane Keough (0-for-2), Craig Michalowski (1-for-1) and Matt Titus (0-for-2) each had one RBI.
Ian Maude picked up the win on the mound after tossing 4 2/3 innings and allowing one run on two hits with four strikeouts.
Marblehead (2-5) hosts Masconomet Friday morning (11).
Nick Balesta went 1-for-2 with the Witches’ only RBI in the loss, while Jack Doyle (1-for-2) also had a hit.
Salem (0-5) travels to Beverly Friday (4).
Beverly 8, Saugus 6
Anthony Macone went 1-for-3 with two RBI in the losing effort for the Sachems, while Cam Soroko (1-for-3) and Drew Gardner (1-for-4) each had one RBI.
Saugus (4-3) travels to Swampscott Friday (2).
Newburyport 3, Lynnfield 1
Ben Mullin pitched a solid game in the losing effort, tossing a complete game and allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits with four strikeouts.
Tyler Scoppettuolo was responsible for the lone run for the Pioneers, knocking an RBI double after Spencer Riley singled to get on base.
Lynnfield (1-3) has a quick turnaround with a home game against Triton Thursday morning (10).
Revere 11, Everett 1 (F/6)
Dom Boudreau (3-for-4) and Mike Popp (1-for-3) each had three RBI in the victory, while Brendan Sack (2-for-4) had two RBI. Ollie Svendson (2-for-4) and Sal DeAngelis (1-for-2) each had one RBI.
Kyle Cummings picked up the win on the mound for the Patriots after tossing a complete game and allowing one run on one hit with seven strikeouts.
Revere (6-1) hosts Somerville Monday (4).

Bishop Fenwick (1-6) travels to Manchester-Essex Friday (12).
SOFTBALL
Lynn English 15, Chelsea 3 (F/5)
Arianna Laboy threw a five-inning no-hitter for the Bulldogs in the victory, striking out nine batters in the process. Laboy also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and three runs scored.
Jari Perez paced the offense by going 2-for-2 with a double, a triple, three RBI and four runs scored, while Autumn Whitney went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and one run scored. Janessa Lopez went 3-for-3 with two triples and four runs scored, while Kate Johansson went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.
Lynn English (3-3) hosts Malden Monday (4).

The Spartans dropped their first game of the season to open up their trip down the Myrtle Beach.

Manuela Lizardo continued her impressive start to the season, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBI to lead the offense. Izzy Faessler went 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI, while Gianna Coito went 2-for-4 with two RBI. MeKayla Poisson contributed on both sides of the field, going 1-for-1 with two RBI at the plate and pitching three innings of one-hit ball with five strikeouts in the circle.
Nevaeh Eth went 1-for-3 with one RBI, while Leilani Eth notched her first career varsity hit and RBI in the win.

Cam Collins led the way for the Tanners with one goal and one assist, while Nick Salvati, Matthew Bettencourt and Matthew Lindstrom each scored one goal.
Anthony Curcio went 10-for-13 on faceoff attempts, while goalie Derek Patturelli finished with seven saves.

The lone win for the Magicians came from first singles player Mika Garber, who took down opponent Chris Curran in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).

The Rams swept the singles matches to earn the victory Wednesday morning, getting wins from Kenzie McLaren (6-0,6-0), Alyssa Raithel (6-2, 6-3) and Linda Jallow (6-3, 6-1).

BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK
Peabody 94, Marblehead 38
The Tanners had a trio of double-winners on the day, with Alex Jackson getting wins in the shot put (47- 1 1/2) and the discus (113-6), Colin Ridley grabbing wins in the 100 (11.4) and the 200 (23.6) and Logan Tracia in the 800 (2:02.7) and the one-mile (5:17.9). The Tanners also got wins from Patrick Senfuma in the high jump (5-2), Domenic Scalese in the javelin (124-9), Anthony Forte in the long jump (19-3), Sebastian Pizarro in the 400 hurdles (1:03.3) and Shaun Conrad in the 400 (53.3).
Peabody (2-0) runs against Beverly Wednesday (4).
Winners for the Magicians were Diego Knight in the triple jump (37-1) and Sean Calnan in the 110 hurdles (17.3).

The Big Blue had two double-winners, with Joey Do taking first in the long jump (20-3 1/2) and the triple jump (40-6) and Ethan Gee finishing first in the shot put (38-5) and the discus (120-6). The Big Blue also got a win from Vincent Videtta in the high jump (5-6).

GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK
Peabody 93, Marblehead 42
Savanna Vargas was a triple winner for the Tanners after winning the long jump (16-1), the 100 (12.8) and the 200 (26.7). Lindsey Wilson and Jessica Richards were all double-winners, with Wilson winning the 400 hurdles (1:15.9) and the high jump (5-5) and Richards winning shot put (29-9) and the discus (86-2). Peabody also got wins from Yosmery Batista in the 400 (1:05.2) and Samantha Simmons in the javelin (74-9).

The Magicians got wins from Ava Machado in the triple jump (31-1) and Devin Whalen in the 100 hurdles (16.3).
