Lynn wine shop fundraises for Ukraine

April 24, 2022 by [email protected]

LYNN — It is admirable to do good for other people, and it’s even better when all you need to do is drink wine.

Lynn-based Lucille Wine Shop and Tasting Room is having a wine tasting fundraiser to honor the efforts of two of its wine suppliers, Fredrico Ceretto of Italy and Pepe Raventos of Spain, who are bringing medical supplies and food to individuals at the Poland-Ukraine border.

“Both of those wineries are driving about 20 hours or so with supplies,” said Sarah Marshall, the owner of Lucille Wine Shop. She said that they were featuring sparkling wines from those wineries to honor their efforts and support their humanitarian activities.

The event will take place Friday, April 29 from 6-8 p.m. The ticket price is $20, and all proceeds will be donated to World Central Kitchen, which is bringing hundreds of thousands of daily meals and food kits to distribution sites across Ukraine and the surrounding regions.

“We are going to be pouring about seven different wines,” said Marshall. “And Ciao Bistro will be supplying pizza.”

Reservations to the event are not required. Donations to World Central Kitchen will be accepted at the door, or can be made online in advance. The food and the wine are complementary to the donation. Marshall expects 40-50 people to attend. “We are definitely expecting a good turnout and it will be just kind of a nice party,” Marshall said.

Marshall opened Lucille Wine Shop and Tasting Room in 2020 with a simple mission: to bring restaurant-caliber hospitality and sommelier-level knowledge to a friendly, neighborhood wine shop. She named the shop after her maternal grandmother, whose life was about community and travel.

Marshall is a graduate of Boston University’s Metropolitan College’s wine studies program, and is a certified sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers. She got her start at the legendary Boston restaurant L’Espalier, which closed in 2018. She continued her work and education at other eateries around Boston, such as Central Bottle, BRIX, the Butcher Shop, Stir, and the Boston Harbor Hotel. She also worked as a wine director at Oleana and Sarma restaurants.
