Bishop Fenwick High School announced on Tuesday that Scott Connolly will become the School’s Athletic Director, effective July 1, 2022.
Fenwick is also pleased to announce that David Woods, the School’s current Athletic Director, will remain at Fenwick as Head Football and in an additional role supporting the school’s athletic program and advancing the school’s mission.
Connolly, currently the Athletic Director at Salem High School, is a veteran educator and administrator who is deeply passionate about providing a quality, positive, and meaningful experience for student-athletes. A seasoned athletic director with expertise in educational athletics, coaching and training, and health and wellness, Connolly has contributed to schools in a variety of ways — from increasing student engagement to developing student leadership.
“Because of Scott’s authentic commitment to faith and family, and because of his impressive, holistic understanding of what constitutes excellence in high school athletics, we are thrilled to welcome Scott to Bishop Fenwick,” said Bishop Fenwick President Tom Nunan. “We are also privileged to have David Woods continue as head football coach at Fenwick. David is one of the pillars of our community, and his legacy of outstanding achievement is surpassed only by his reputation for exceptional integrity.”
Woods has served as Athletic Director at Bishop Fenwick for 13 years, and he will further his 24-year legacy as head football coach. Woods and his wife Kristine have the honor of watching the last of the Woods’ family, their son Steven, graduate from Fenwick this May.
Connolly is also a current Fenwick parent, as he and his wife Renee have watched Jake ’21 and Luke ’24 flourish at Fenwick. Tyler ’26 will be joining his brother Crusader next fall, and Fenwick hopes to be seeing their younger sister Avery in a few more years.
“This is an incredible opportunity for me, and I am extremely excited to get started at this great school,” said Connolly. “Fenwick has a rich, proud athletic tradition, which is a reflection of Coach Woods’ exemplary leadership, and I hope to continue that tradition.”
“The timing is right for me to make a change,” said Woods. “Being the AD at Fenwick has been an amazing ride and a tremendous honor, and I have been inspired by the many student-athletes and coaches with whom I have worked. I look forward to spending more time as Head Football Coach and to continuing in my new role to help Fenwick thrive.”
Woods will remain as Athletic Director until June 30.
With 28 different sports at various levels, Fenwick athletics has a long and storied history of helping student-athletes to succeed on and off the field. Over 80 percent of students compete in one or more sports during their time at Fenwick, and in recent years, over 20 percent of the graduating class has gone on to play a sport in college. Whether earning league titles or competing for state championships, Fenwick student-athletes demonstrate the school’s values of respect, integrity, character, and sportsmanship.
