School Sports Roundup: Swampscott girls lacrosse takes down Salem

The Swampscott girls lacrosse team got its week started on a winning note Tuesday, picking up a 16-1 win over Salem in a Northeastern Conference bout at Blocksidge Field. 

Broghan Laundry led the way for the Big Blue with five goals and four assists, while Brooke Waters was close behind with five goals and three assists. Coco Clopton added four goals and two assists, while Angela D’Aleio and Maisie Russo each scored one goal. Addie Wood notched two assists, while goalie Sasha Divall made three saves to secure the win in net. 

Salem (3-4) hosts Beverly Thursday (4).

Swampscott (3-2) is back in action Thursday (4) at home against Winthrop. 

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 16, Malden Catholic 1

The Eagles saw 12 different players record goals — including first time varsity tallies for Madden McGowan, Josh Haarmann, Ben Merena and Oliver Roselli.

Haarmann led the way with two goals and two assists, while Nate Jones had two goals and one assist. Rowan Mondello and Max Perault each scored two goals, while Brendan Powers had one goal and four assists. McGowan, Merena, Roselli, Noah Brown, Lucas Verrier, AJ Mazziarello and Jimmy Ellard each scored one goal, while Will Sawyer had one assist. Goalie Gavin Kornitsky recorded four saves to notch his first career varsity win in net. 

St. John’s Prep (8-2) hosts St. John’s (Shrewsbury) Thursday (5:30).

BASEBALL

Ipswich 12, Lynnfield 1

Lynnfield (1-6) travels to Amesbury Thursday (3:45).

Mystic Valley 10, Lynn Tech 0

Lynn Tech (3-2) is now off for a week before taking on Minuteman in a doubleheader Tuesday (3:30).

BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK

St. Mary’s 81, Bishop Stang 54

Dylan Moroney was a double-winner for St. Mary’s, taking first in the long jump and the 200-meter. The Spartans also got wins from Tyler Cunningham in the discus, Brett O’Brien in the 100 and Kyle Kwiatek in the two-mile.

St. Mary’s (3-0) will run in the Lynn All-City Track Championship Saturday (4).

Revere 89, Lynn English 41

The Patriots got wins from Mark Marchese in the long jump, Ahmed Bellemsieh in the triple jump, Javan Close in the 400 hurdles, Kyra Delaney in the 110 hurdles, Keny Guerrero in the 200, JV Cunha in the 400, Zaraius Billmoria in the 800, Sami Elasri in the one-mile and Kenan Batic in the two-mile.

Revere (2-0) is on the road at Malden next Thursday (4).

Stephen Srey was a double-winner for the Bulldogs, taking first in the shot put and the discus. Other winners for English were Martins Ngandjui in the high jump, Zaen Pan in the javelin and Ernie Panias in the 100. 

English (0-3) will run in the Lynn All-City Track Championship Saturday (4).

GIRLS OUTDOOR TRACK

St. Mary’s 93, Bishop Stang 34

The Spartans saw Aaliah Tejada Lara finish as a triple-winner, taking first in the triple jump, the 400 hurdles and the shot put. Kaelyn Jennings was a double-winner in the 100 hurdles and the javelin, while Aalina Tejada Lara finished first in the long jump. 

St. Mary’s (1-2) will run in the Lynn All-City Track Championship Saturday (4).

Revere 87, Lynn English 40

Carolina Carvalho-Bettero won four different events in the victory, taking first in the long jump, the triple jump, the 100 hurdles and the 400 hurdles. Other winners for the Patriots were Natalia Lopez in the shot put and the discus, Jerelys Canales in the high jump, Kyra Delaney in the 200, Alannah Burke in the 800, Rocio Gonzalez in the one-mile and Carly Bennett in the two-mile. 

Revere (2-0) is on the road at Malden next Thursday (4).

The Bulldogs got wins from Kendra Malcolm in the 100, Diamond Bogues in the javelin and Aida Bellal in the 400.

English (1-2) will run in the Lynn All-City Track Championship Saturday (4).
