Picking up a win just wasn’t in the cards for the Lynnfield softball team Wednesday afternoon, as the Pioneers battled the rain and a red-hot North Reading offense in a 20-1 loss at Lynnfield High School.
Morgan Hubbard had the lone hit for Lynnfield in the loss, going 1-for-2 with one RBI. Catie Kampersal reached base twice on walks, while Ava Gamache was 0-for-1 with a run scored.
Sophia Brown got the start in the circle and went the distance for the Pioneers.
Lynnfield (3-6) is off until Monday (4), when it hosts East Boston back at Lynnfield High.
SOFTBALL
Archbishop Williams 3, St. Mary’s 2
The Spartans held a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth, but Williams responded with a three-run outburst in the bottom of the inning to notch the come-from-behind win — giving St. Mary’s its second straight loss.
Emely Rodriguez had a solid day at the plate in the defeat, notching two hits and one RBI.
St. Mary’s (6-3) hosts Newton South Saturday (1).
Cardinal Spellman 12, Bishop Fenwick 9
Hailey Russell and Hannah O’Brien each went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the loss, while pitcher Gigi Aupont struck out 15 batters in the complete-game effort.
Bishop Fenwick (4-4) has a quick turnaround with a road game against Latin Academy Thursday (3:30).
BASEBALL
Lynn English 7, Medford 1
The Bulldogs pushed across four runs in the top of the seventh to pull away and get back to .500 on the season.
Eldrian Bonilla went 1-for-4 with two RBI in the win, while Guilmer Galva went 1-for-1 with a triple and one RBI. Jason Figuereo (2-for-3), Nevin Gonzalez (0-for-2) and Derek Ubri (0-for-0) each added one RBI.
Ray Contreras and Manuel Taveras combined to pitch six innings and strike out eight batters in the win, while Tyler MacMillan pitched the final inning and struck out two batters.
Lynn English (4-4) hosts Revere Monday (4).
Revere 4, Lynn Classical 2
The Patriots came up with a few timely hits and took advantage of some Classical mistakes in the road victory at Fraser Field.
Max Doucette went 1-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Patriots’ offense, while Kyle Cummings went 1-for-3 with one RBI. Dom Boudreau and Ollie Svendson each had one hit in the victory.
Cummings also went the distance on the mound to earn the win, allowing two runs on five hits with eight strikeouts.
Revere (7-2) hosts Cambridge Saturday (10).
Brady Warren went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI in the loss for the Rams, while Tyler Wilson went 1-for-2 with a double. Almani Medina, Nico Ramirez and Darnel Leon each had one hit.
Kyle Durant took the loss on the mound after going five innings and allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Kevin Whalen tossed the final two innings, allowing just one hit.
Lynn Classical (9-2) is now off until Monday (4), when it travels to Medford.
Marblehead 3, Peabody 1
The Magicians fell behind early but rallied back after scoring in three straight innings to earn the win at Seaside Park.
Brady Lavender (1-for-2, double), Andy Titus (1-for-3, double) and Liam McIlroy (1-for-3) each had one RBI in the win for Marblehead.
On the mound, Ian Maude threw a complete game and allowed just one run on five hits with four strikeouts.
Marblehead (4-5) plays a doubleheader against Swampscott Saturday (1&3).
Brendan Smith (0-for-2) had the lone RBI in the loss for the Tanners, while Mike Krouse (2-for-3), Giovanni Guglielmo (1-for-3), Jacob Palhares (1-for-3) and Josh Sigmon (1-for-2) each had a hit.
Joe Raymond went six innings in the loss, allowing three runs on four hits with two strikeouts.
Peabody (5-4) goes on the road to face Salem Friday (4) at Salem State University.
Catholic Memorial 6, St. John’s Prep 0
The Eagles were only able to scatter four hits — one each from Kyle Webster, Nick Solitro, Payton Palladino and Cam LaGrassa — in the loss at Pete Frates Field.
St. John’s Prep (5-4) hosts St. Paul Friday (4).
Gloucester 6, Saugus 3
Anthony Macone went 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI in the loss, while Matt MacEachern went 1-for-3 with one RBI and Drew Gardner went 0-for-2 with one RBI. Braden Faiella went 1-for-4 with a triple, while Anthony Cicolini (2-for-3) and Ryan Anderson (1-for-4) added base hits.
Saugus (4-5) hosts Greater Lawrence Friday night (7) for its first-ever night game at World Series Park.
St. Mary’s 5, Archbishop Williams 1
Cam McGonagle went 1-for-2 with a triple and three RBI to pace the offense, while Tad Giardina went 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBI.
Eric Bridges earned the win on the mound for the Spartans, going the distance and allowing one run on one hit with nine strikeouts.
St. Mary’s (7-3) travels to Bishop Stang Monday (3:30).
BOYS LACROSSE
Lynnfield 13, Pentucket 7
The Pioneers picked up a key Cape Ann League victory behind a four-goal, four-assist performance from Jack Calichman. Will Steadman added four goals and one assist of his own, while Will Norton scored two goals and Drew Damiani had one goal and one assist. AJ Chiaradonna and Janssen Sperling each scored one goal, while Kelan Cardinal had one assist. Goalie Ben Pimentel had 10 saves to earn the win in net.
Lynnfield (4-2) hosts Newburyport Saturday (11).

BOYS TENNIS
Lynn Classical 3, Revere 2
The Rams got singles wins from Wilson Lieu (6-1, 6-2) and Donavin Chheng (6-2, 6-0), while the marathon doubles win from the team of Marcus Ryan and Jaeel Beato (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) put Classical over the edge.
Lynn Classical (3-4) takes on Winthrop Thursday (4).
GIRLS TENNIS
Lynnfield 4, Triton 0
The Pioneers were able to get four matches in before the rain forced a stoppage, getting wins from Paige Martino (6-1, 6-2) and Anna Radulski (6-0, 6-2) in singles play and from the teams of Lauren Grava-Maddie Sieve (6-0, 6-1) and Sarah Breslow-Leticia Marafon (6-1, 6-1) in doubles play.
Lynnfield (5-0) travels to North Reading Thursday (4:15).
BOYS OUTDOOR TRACK
Lynnfield 102, Hamilton-Wenham 43
The Pioneers picked up their first win of the season behind triple-winner Joe Cucciniello, who qualified for states with his 100-meter win (11.3 seconds) and also took first in the triple jump (39-9) and the high jump (5-5).
Nick Marcinowski and Anthony Attubato were both double-winners for Lynnfield, with Marcinowski winning the shot put (37-11) and the discus (112-4) and Attubato winning the long jump (18-7) and the 200 (24.1).
Other winners for the Pioneers were Dean Bey in the 400 hurdles (1:05.7), Nickson Joseph in the 100 hurdles (19.1), Jack DiGangi in the 400 (57.1), Angelo DeLuca in the two-mile (11:07) and Chase Goldberg in the javelin (126-10).
Lynnfield (1-3) travels to Pentucket Wednesday (4).
